2013-05-20 — /travelprnews.com/ — FirstGroup, the UK’s leading bus and rail operator, has continued its support of Monty’s Maggies Appeal by updating the livery on one of First Aberdeen’s double decker buses.
In 2012, the Aberdeen based transport operator revealed a Maggies ‘bus wrap’ which completely covers the vehicle (except the windows) and included a 10ft tall Colin Montgomerie, the Scottish golfer who is spearheading the campaign.
The original messaging referred to plans for the Centre to be open ‘next year’. Given the successful campaign and the amount of funding generously donated by the local community, the new Centre will open this year. And so the bus livery has been updated and will remain fixed to the bus throughout 2013.
Avril Gill, FirstGroup’s Marketing Manager said: “The Maggie’s Team has delivered an incredibly successful campaign and I’m thrilled that the Centre will open in Aberdeen this year. Of course, there is still work to be done and I’m pleased that our Maggie’s Bus, which is without doubt the most distinctive and easily recognised in Aberdeen, will continue to raise awareness amongst the general public.”
Meanwhile, Ian Ord, who sits on the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal Committee and is a Director of Fifth Ring, the company which has undertaken all of the Appeal’s design and marketing, said: “The bus has been a fantastic talking point since it was launched last year and has given a huge amount of profile and interest to the Appeal. It is a real statement of FirstGroup’s engagement and support for key local projects and we are delighted to see this continuing as we look forward to the opening of the new Centre.”
Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres
Maggie’s welcomes those at all points of their cancer journey, as well as friends and family members of those facing a cancer diagnosis. In complement to the excellent treatment on offer through the NHS, Maggie’s evidence based programme of support helps people to navigate through the emotional, psychological and practical complexities of the disease. Led by cancer professionals, Maggie’s Centres empower people to live the best life possible with, through and beyond cancer.
The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation
Colin Montgomerie established the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother, who died of cancer. Colin recognised the gap in emotional and practical support on offer to his family during this time and set out to establish a legacy in his mother’s name, which would address this need. The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation found a natural partner with Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres and together they launched Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal in June 2010, with the aim of raising £3million to build a Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen. Furthermore, the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and Maggie’s are working together to raise the funds needed to build a Maggie’s Centre in Lanarkshire.
