Dresden Airport will host Grand Airport Festival on 19 and 20 September to celebrate its 80th anniversary

DRESDEN, Germany, 2015-9-9 — /Travel PR News/ — On 19 and 20 September Dresden Airport celebrates its 80th anniversary with the Grand Airport Festival. From 10:00 to 18:00 visitors can expect an exciting programme of activities and events both in the sky and on the ground. Among the highlights are sightseeing flights across Dresden and surroundings and tours of the NATO AWACS reconnaissance plane and the legendary 152 jet aircraft. Many of the airport’s partners – ranging from Aeroclub Pirna to the customs authorities – will be exhibiting both inside and outside the festival grounds. In addition, there will be Mini, Weather Station and Aircraft Factory tours, a technology show, fun and games for children, and a show programme with music, comedy, artistry and talks on two stages. Sightseeing flights in small aircraft on both days

Twenty-minute sightseeing flights are available from the Fliegerservice “August der Starke” (Cessna 172, DA40), Flug-Center Milan (Cessna 172, Piper 28, TB-10) and Flugservice Bautzen (Aero GA-8, TB-10). Tickets cost €59 for adults and €34 for children aged 3 to 10.Thirty-minute sightseeing flights will be offered by Flugservice Bautzen in a Cessna 340A business aircraft, and by Technische Restaurationen Werner Zinke in an Antonov
AN-2, the world’s largest single-engine biplane. Tickets for these flights cost €80 for adults and €50 for children aged 3 to 10.

Seats can be booked through Dresden Airport on +49 (0)351 881 3270 (daily from 09:00 to 18:00). Participants will qualify for priority check-in before the flight on presentation of their booking confirmation. Ticket prices include all taxes and charges. These sightseeing flights are not available for children under 3. Flughafen Dresden GmbH is acting solely as an intermediary for these flights. The contract is between the passenger and the company whose aircraft they are travelling on.

Sightseeing flight with Germania on Saturday 19 September

Sightseeing flights with airberlin on Sunday 20 September

The airline will be running approx. 40-minute sightseeing flights in a Bombardier Dash 8Q-400. The turboprop machine will depart at 10:30 (flight no. AB1997) and 12:00 (AB1998). The price per person per flight is €99, including a beverage and snack. Tickets:http://bit.ly/1HMDsvs

Themed tours

Mini Tours (bus trip across the apron to watch aircraft being handled) will leave every 30 minutes between 10:00 and 17:00 on both days.
Weather Station Tours (bus trip, visit to the Meteorological Service) will leave at 11:30, 12:30, 14:30 and 15:30 on Saturday and at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 and 13:30 on Sunday.
Aircraft Factory Tours (bus trip, visit to one of the Elbe Flugzeugwerke aircraft hangars, short stopover to see aircraft types IL-14, MiG21, MiG-23) will leave at 11:00, 12:00 and 13:00 on Sunday.

AWACS Tours (exclusive tour of the NATO Boeing 707-320 reconnaissance aircraft) leave every 60 minutes on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and additionally at 10:30, 13:30 and 16:30. These themed tours run every 30 minutes from 14:00 to 17:00 on Sunday.

All four tours take you to the non-public area of the airport. This requires you to pass through a Flughafen Dresden GmbH security control point for accompanied access to the apron, for which a charge applies. Because of the different group sizes, tickets for the Mini, Weather Station and Aircraft Factory Tours cost €4 (adults) and €2 (children up to age 14), and €10/€6 for the AWACS tours. The tours can also be booked without an airport festival admission ticket. The meeting point for all tour participants is the airport information desk in the terminal.

152 tour

The first ever German jet aircraft, the 152, was built at the Dresden aviation works in the 1950s. The restored fuselage of the last remaining 152 is on display in the west wing of the terminal (included in admission price). Waiting times are likely.

Technology show

Besides the AWACS and 152, numerous small aircraft (Dornier Do-27 A4, Piaggio P149 D, WACO YKS-6, NA T-6, Extra 330LT, Cessna C 140, Broussard MH-1521, Yakolev YAK-55 MC, Ikarus C42, PZL-101 Gawron, Meta Sokol) and helicopters (Mil Mi-2, Bell UH-1) will be on display. Participants will also get to see fire station vehicles, ground handling equipment and winter service vehicles such as the Panther 8×8, a pushback, a highloader and an Elephant de-icer.

Entertainment for the whole family

Highlights of the stage programme on Saturday are appearances by hit singer Franziska, Vanessa Neigert (DSDS) with the Rock ‘n’ Roll-Orchester-Magdeburg, the Saxony Police Orchestra, the Bäng Bäng Steelpan Orchestra, show twins Claudia & Carmen and the Coswig Artists with their Body Magic Show.

On Sunday the mood will be set by Böttcher & Fischer from Radio R.SA, hit singer Ella Endlich, the Berlin Federal Police Orchestra, the Dixie Mix Altstars, the floating Dr Musikus, the Bäng Bäng Steelpan Orchestra and the Coswig Artists. Entertainer Uwe Jensen, Anna-Carina Woitschack (DSDS), the City Dancers and hat jugglers Angelique & Kavalier will be putting on an explosive show under the motto Feiern macht Freude – Wiedersehen macht Freude (Come and party – come and meet old friends). Filmmaker Ernst Hirsch will present a selection of his “Dresden film treasures”.

The Customs dog team will be displaying their talents on both days. Local clubs and associations will be performing sports gymnastics and dance: SG Klotzsche on Saturday and VfB Hellerau-Klotzsche on Sunday.

For children there will be an AOK Kinderland (giant board games, family games, souvenir photos, balloon artists), a bungee trampoline, a kids’ high wire course, a water pool with walking balls, bouncy castles, craft tables, face painting, a jungle show on Sunday, and lots of other action-packed play activities. The popular police dinosaur Poldi will be dropping by on Saturday.

Proceeds will go the German Air Rescue Service and the Umkehrschwung Youth Workshops based at Dresden Airport.

The airport is organising a flea market with model aircraft, pictures, pennants, postcards, promotional aviation gifts and lots more besides. Admission, parking, public transport

Admission is €6 for adults and €3 for children aged 7 to 14. Children under 6 are admitted free. Tickets can be bought in advance from the airport information desk.

Parking in designated areas costs €4 for the day. There will only be a limited number of parking spaces available! So we highly recommend arriving and leaving by public transport. S-Bahn line S2 runs to the airport every 30 minutes and stops in the terminal basement. From there it’s just a few steps to the festival grounds. Bus routes 77 and 80 stop immediately outside the terminal. They both connect to tram line 7.
