2013-07-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — Education is a human right. The cultural identity of the individual and the society is based upon it. As a result, education is a prerequisite for a sustainable human development and a peaceful coexistence. However, over the years the black population of South Africa has been denied access to education facilities and thus to well-paid employment. Since 13th January 2010, the newly opened iThemba Nursery School Capricorn in Vrygrond, a township near Cape Town, has been working to correct this deficit. On the initiative of the HelpAlliance and of employees of Lufthansa Global Tele Sales Cape Town, on the outskirts of the township it has been possible to build a new school complex for 75 children with three classrooms, playground and an administration block.
Christoph Franz, Chairman of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, visited the nursery school on the fringes of the IATA conference in Cape Town at the end of May, in order to get a comprehensive overview of the situation of the school. “It is important with suitable educational offers to pave the way out poverty. When you enter the grounds, you immediately feel that the children here have found an island, offering both security and education in a more than difficult environment”, he said and was delighted with the songs and dances performed by the children as well as the joint barbecue.
The HelpAlliance is a charitable aid organization which was founded in 1999 by employees from all parts of the Lufthansa Group. The humanitarian activities focus on diet and health programmes, schools, education facilities, orphanages and street children projects. Currently there are about forty aid initiatives all over the world. It is the aim to help people to help themselves in order to make it possible for those affected to improve their living conditions through their own activities.
