Commissioner Andolino Discusses Airport Expansion on London Panel

CHICAGO, 2013-02-28 — /travelprnews.com/ — Rosemarie S. Andolino, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) discussed Chicago’s O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP), among other topics, during a series of meetings organized by London First (LF), an organization whose mission is to encourage business and tourism in London.

London First hosted Andolino and Jos Nijhuis, President and CEO of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to learn from their experiences in managing and operating two of the busiest airports in the world, as well as to talk about the comparative challenges faced by three great cities – London, Chicago and Amsterdam – in developing world class air links, along with the solutions that have been found or are proposed.

During their visit, Andolino and Nijhuis took a tour of Heathrow Airport and met with Sir Howard Davies and other members of the Airports Commission, before taking part in a debate on ‘World Class Air Links for a World City’ on Monday, February 25. The other panelist were Colin Matthews, CEO of Heathrow Airport; Stewart Wingate, CEO of Gatwick Airport and Daniel Moylan, London Mayoral Adviser on Aviation Policy. Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of London First, moderated the event.

With additional LF members in the audience, Andolino opened the debate with the observation that “there is no right solution, only a best solution for your city”, and said her team at O’Hare focused on a goal of being able to get anywhere in the world in a single flight. She also spoke of the importance of the strong leadership and support of Chicago’s mayors for the development and growth of the OMP.

Andolino was also interviewed on the topic of expansion by reporters from the BBC and the London newspaper, The Guardian.
