2013-07-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies will now have a satellite office available to them at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport to better serve Clay County residents and businesses.
Clay County, Missouri, is one of the major counties that comprise the metropolitan area of Kansas City, Missouri. It is the third most populous county in the metro region and covers more than 400 square miles. Having an office at Downtown Airport gives Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies a base of operations in the southwest corner of the county.
Deputies will be able to use this location to field reports, conduct investigative tasks, provide additional law enforcement support to the airport and respond to calls in the vicinity. The office’s proximity to Downtown Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas also affords the opportunity to better coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and organizations.
“Our department is thrilled at the opportunity to open a satellite office in such a strategic location as Downtown Airport,” said Clay County Sheriff Paul C. Vescovo III. “Our deputies can be more efficient with time and resources and they will be well-positioned to respond to calls in a highly populated portion of Clay County.”
Although Airport Police and the Kansas City Police Department will maintain their jurisdiction over the airport, Sheriff’s Deputies will conduct additional perimeter patrols while they are in the vicinity, which will increase law enforcement visibility. This venture will not only increase the safety and security for those working and visiting the airport but will add increased coverage in the southwestern portion of the county as well.
“Having Clay County Sheriff’s Department deputies onsite is a great opportunity for the close-knit Downtown Airport community,” said Airport Manager Michael Roper. In addition to aviation businesses, we have two airline museums, a large advertising agency and recreation activity going on here. Adding law enforcement to our community is a win for all concerned.”
Located in Hangar Two on the northeast side of airport, the space and furnishings for the satellite office were graciously donated by aviation services provider Signature Flight Support, further eliminating any financial impact on Clay County.
