2012-12-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — Cathay Pacific confirms it has received an invitation from the Hong Kong SAR’s Labour Department to meet with its representatives and the Flight Attendants Union (FAU).
General Manager Cabin Crew Liza Ng said: “As we have said, our doors remain open for discussions and we are now working with the Labour Department on a proposed meeting to be held this coming week. We appreciate the Labour Department’s experience in resolving issues such as this. We know many Hong Kong people have travel plans over the peak year-end season and it is certainly our priority to ensure that our customers are not inconvenienced in any way.”
Cathay Pacific also said it continues to communicate the rationale for the year end package to all of its staff. Chief Operating Officer Ivan Chu said: “I think most of our staff understand that aviation is a difficult and volatile business and that salary packages will need to reflect the performance of our business. They also know – and this is important – that we do our best to look after them in difficult times and that we do share with them the benefits when times are good. This is at the core of Cathay culture.”
Liza Ng added: “We have seen stories in the media about guidelines to its members issued by the FAU which allege that management is preparing dirty tricks to be used in the days ahead. I would like to take this chance to confirm that these absurd allegations are totally baseless.”
