(PRESS RELEASE) Hong Kong, China, 2024-Nov-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Cathay Pacific reaffirmed its dedication to youth development and community engagement with the successful completion of its Cathay Community Flight 2024 on 23 November. As part of its support for the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Strive and Rise Programme, the initiative brought over 180 students and mentors on an unforgettable 90-minute flight over Hong Kong aboard a newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

This marks Cathay’s second year participating in the Strive and Rise Programme, which empowers young people by broadening their horizons, building self-confidence, and encouraging goal-setting.

The flight was hosted by Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, with Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, Eric Chan Kwok-ki, serving as the Guest of Honour. During the event, Mr. Chan expressed his gratitude to Cathay, highlighting its significant contributions over two cohorts of the programme:
“Cathay has provided exceptional opportunities for students, including Community Flights and Aviation Exploration Days, involving more than 2,500 participants. These initiatives demonstrate the positive impact of aviation on Hong Kong’s economic development and reflect our call for students to ‘Stand tall, look up and get ahead.’”

Ms. Lau underscored the airline’s commitment to enriching the community, especially for youth:
“Cathay is deeply rooted in Hong Kong, and we are honored to support initiatives like the Strive and Rise Programme. Today’s flight was a chance for students—many flying for the first time—to experience the joy of aviation while exploring future possibilities. We are grateful to the Cathay volunteers, ground staff, and crew who made this event a success.”

The day also included a sharing session led by Cathay’s Director of People, Patricia Hwang, a Star Mentor for the programme, who spoke with students about their aspirations and experiences.

The Cathay Community Flight, first launched in 2007, is one of many initiatives led by the airline to support youth development. Other programs include the I Can Fly initiative, the Cadet Pilot Training Programme, and the recent expansion of the Cathay Hackathon into the Greater Bay Area.
