Austrian Airlines sees increase in demand for Spanish and Italian destinations in the upcoming summer of 2016

Vienna, Austria, 2016-Mar-11 — /Travel PR News/ — The cards on the holiday market will be reshuffled in the upcoming summer of 2016. The holiday preferences of the Austrians are changing due to numerous political trouble spots, for example in North Africa and Turkey. Up until now there have always been numerous bookings for vacations in Tunisia and Turkey in the summer. The new trend is clearly towards travelling to Spain and Italy. “We are witnessing a significant increase in demand for Spanish and Italian destinations compared to the previous year”, explains Austrian Chief Commercial Officer Andreas Otto. “We are responding to this demand with a total of 96 weekly flights to Italy and eleven to Spain.” In addition, Austrian Airlines has added two new holiday routes in the coming summer, namely Jerez in Spain and Bari in Italy.

On balance, the Austrian Airlines leisure time brand myHoliday will offer a total of 32 different destinations in the summer of 2016. Austrian Airlines has expanded its offering to Italy due to growing demand. Starting on May 26, 2016, it will commence flight service to Bari with one weekly flight. In addition, the airline will offer a third flight per week to Catania and a second flight to Olbia. Austrian Airlines will also increase its offering to Naples to five direct flights a week from Vienna by adding two additional flights.

A trend in favor of Spain this summer is also emerging. Here Austrian Airlines is offering a total of eleven weekly flight connections, both to the Spanish mainland and numerous islands. Austrian Airlines will offer direct flights each day from Vienna to Barcelona. The islands of Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Menorca, Tenerife and Jerez will be served once a week by direct flights.

All in all, Austrian Airlines is offering its passengers a comprehensive offering 132 destinations in 55 countries in its summer flight schedule for 2016, which takes effect on March 27, 2016.

The airlines belonging to the Lufthansa Group will offer one of the densest route networks in the world in the upcoming summer flight schedule 2016 on the basis of 23,140 flights per week. The Lufthansa Group airlines will fly to 316 destinations in 101 countries in the summer of 2016 (2015: 321 destinations in 103 countries) from its flight hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna and Brussels, but also via many point-to-point routes. In addition, more than 18,000 code share flights in cooperation with about 30 partner airlines complement the respective flight offering, and offer travelers a network covering almost the entire world.
