Amsterdam Airport Schiphol recieves Airport Carbon Accreditation for its environmental efforts

Amsterdam, 2014-5-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is receiving international recognition in the form of an Airport Carbon Accreditation for its efforts to save the climate. Schiphol has a comprehensive programme for reducing CO2 emissions and also uses emission rights to compensate for emissions. The airport’s efforts have earned it a place among the world’s greenest airports. Examples of environmentally friendly measures taken by Schiphol include the use of biodiesel, reducing commuting by employees by encouraging working from home, and promoting electric transport.

From late 2014, a fleet of more than 100 fully electric taxis will be deployed for passenger taxi services at Schiphol. The airport will also be using electric buses to ferry passengers to and from aircraft. In order to conserve energy, the terminal and car parks have been fitted with LED lighting. Schiphol is conducting tests with LED lighting on the apron where the aircraft are parked. These tests include the smart operation of this LED lighting, with the lights only switching on when needed. Schiphol uses 100% recycled asphalt on the airport’s roads.

Airport Carbon Accreditation
Schiphol’s Airport Carbon Accreditation is the highest possible (3+). To qualify for this level of accreditation, an airport must have analysed all its emissions, drawn up effective reduction programmes and implemented them successfully, and compensated for any remaining emissions.

Check-in to sustainability
Schiphol Group anticipates and invests in a sustainable future for the airport. Schiphol Group enables connections. Connections between the Netherlands and the rest of the world and connections between people. Schiphol Group operates with respect for people, the environment and neighbouring communities. And it does so not by acting independently, but in close cooperation with travellers and it’s business partners.
