Airport Ambassadors Aim High with Customer Excellence

2013-03-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — Leeds City College Principal Peter Roberts and Leeds Bradford Airport’s Commercial Director, Tony Hallwood today celebrated the successful completion of a bespoke training programme by the airport’s frontline employees.

Seven Airport Ambassadors were presented with certificates for the ‘Standards of Excellence – Leeds Bradford International Airport’ qualification – a ten-week training course designed and delivered by Leeds City College.

The Ambassadors have key frontline roles, providing information and customer service support to passengers. The training has helped them build on their existing skills in areas such as conflict management, service recovery, effective aviation communication and cultural awareness and understanding.

Tony Hallwood, Commercial and Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport said: “We hope this joint venture with Leeds City College has given Ambassadors the knowledge and confidence to work in such a fast-paced, customer focused environment.

Today is a celebration of their success and we’d like to show our appreciation to all our Ambassadors for providing our passengers with the excellent travel experience they expect when flying from Yorkshire’s Gateway Airport.”

Richard Keys, Curriculum Area Manager for Travel and Aviation said: “We have been delighted to work in partnership with Leeds Bradford Airport on delivering this training. Its success highlights the immense benefits of working closely with an employer to complement and add real value to an existing service.”

The College is also currently in the process of signing a licence agreement with the airport that will enable the Faculty of Travel and Aviation to have a permanent teaching base on-site. The College has been visiting the site for teaching purposes since last year, but the establishment of the permanent facility will provide further benefits.

Richard said: “Having our own teaching facility at the airport will be a really important development for the students. It will enable classroom study to be combined with an understanding of the workplace by seeing aviation in action and providing direct access to industry experts.”
