Buenos Aires, 2012-11-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral have normalized their operations after the strike led by the dissident CGT and CTA, which joined the aeronautical unions (APTA) aeronautical technical staff association, Superior aeronautical personnel Union (UPSA) and Airline Association pilots (APLA), which was carried normally on schedule as programmed for the day. At the same time, special flights have been programmed to transport those passengers that were unable to fly due to the strike.
Over eighty domestic, regional and international flights scheduled for yesterday, could not operate leaving thousands of passengers Argentinians and foreigners strandesd, causing millions of dollars loss not only to Aerolineas Argentinas but also to the countrys economy.
The strike yesterday resulted in a loss of more than six million dollars in unsold airfares, returned tickets, and compensation to passengers who were stranded and had to be provided with accomodation and meals as they could not travel on their connecting flights.
While the vast majority of the aviation workers did not join the groups, lack of qualified personnel to dispatche the aircraft for both companies and the lack of drivers in the case of Aerolineas Argentinas, made it impossible for operation of the flights that were already standardized from day to day.
