A new star in the sky over Hollywood

Los Angeles is the next destination to be served by the “Queen of the Skies”

2012-10-31 — /travelprnews.com/ — Lufthansa has now taken delivery of its fourth Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental. Before the new “Queen of the Skies” with the registration D-ABYF enters scheduled service, final adjustments will be made to the aircraft at its home base at Frankfurt. From 10 December, the new “jumbo” will then fly daily from Frankfurt to Los Angeles.

On this route to California, the most populous and most economically powerful state in the United States the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental will be configured to seat 388 passengers: eight in First Class, 80 in Business Class and 298 in Economy Class.

With a population of about 3.8 million, Los Angeles is the second-largest urban area in the US after New York. It is a major centre of the film, oil and aviation industries and a popular travel destination with a wide range of tourist attractions and sights.

On board the aircraft, Business Class passengers will have a chance to enjoy the features of Lufthansa’s new Business Class cabin, which is fitted with a seat that converts at the press of a button into a lie-flat bed measuring 1.98 metres in length. The new seat offers exceptional comfort for passengers in a sitting or recumbent position, intuitive adjustment features, additional storage space and an enhanced entertainment system.

The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental is a completely newly designed aircraft that builds upon the positive features of the Boeing 747 series, which has been Lufthansa’s reliable long-haul workhorse for more than 40 years. The aircraft’s wings have significantly improved aerodynamics and newly developed wingtips. Moreover, the aircraft provides tangible improvements in terms of eco-efficiency. The GEnx-2B engines consume less fuel and achieve a 15 per cent in fuel efficiency and CO2  emissions per passenger. In addition, noise emissions have been reduced by 30 per cent. Next year, Lufthansa is scheduled to take delivery of another five Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental jets. By 2015, Lufthansa’s 747-8 fleet will encompass 20 aircraft.

Fares start at 699 euros in Economy Class (round trip, including all taxes, fees and charges). Tickets can be booked on the Internet at (www.lufthansa.com) or via the Lufthansa Call Center on 01805 805 805.
