(NEWS) MANCHESTER, 2025-Dec-12 — /Travel PR News/ — For one festive day this week, Manchester Airport transformed air travel into pure Christmas magic, as more than 120 local children boarded a special charity flight in search of Father Christmas himself. The annual “Search for Santa” experience, operated in partnership with Childflight and TUI, offered young passengers a joyful escape filled with imagination, laughter and seasonal wonder.
The children, aged between five and eleven and supported by Childflight for living in challenging circumstances or managing health conditions, took off on a TUI aircraft from Manchester Airport on what appeared to be an extraordinary journey to the North Pole. In reality, the plane flew over the snow-dusted mountains of North Wales, cleverly doubling as Santa’s wintery homeland — though for the children onboard, the illusion was complete.
Throughout the flight, volunteers brought the story to life. Manchester Airport colleagues and TUI crew members donned full elf costumes, entertaining the children with games, festive storytelling and surprises at 30,000 feet. Mid-journey, the aircraft gently tilted its wings — a playful signal that Santa’s sleigh had touched down. When the plane returned to Manchester, the moment became unforgettable as Father Christmas appeared in person, greeting each child and handing out gifts on arrival, based on details shared in Manchester Airport’s official announcement.
The flight, which has become a cherished festive tradition at Manchester Airport, is funded through public donations made via collection globes across the airport, helping Childflight continue its wider mission of creating memorable experiences for children who need them most.
Stephen Sefton, Chair of Childflight, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that the Santa Flight remains one of the charity’s most meaningful annual activities, made possible through community generosity and long-standing partnerships.
Manchester Airport echoed that sentiment, describing the event as a reflection of its wider commitment to local communities. Alongside the Santa Flight, the airport’s Giftmas campaign sees colleagues donate and wrap gifts for children across Greater Manchester, extending the festive spirit well beyond the runway.
For TUI’s cabin crew, the experience is as rewarding as it is magical. Crew members described the joy of watching children’s excitement build throughout the flight — a reminder that aviation can be about more than transport, becoming instead a powerful tool for connection, imagination and happiness.
As the aircraft taxied back into Manchester, the smiles, laughter and gift-filled hands told their own story: sometimes, the most meaningful journeys are the ones that bring wonder closer to home.
