Hong Kong, 2014-11-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok‘s Executive Chef, Stefan Trepp, was recently named “Schweizer Star Im Ausland” (Swiss Star Abroad) by the prestigious 2015 Swiss Gault&Millau restaurant guide. The accolade is bestowed annually on a Swiss-born chef working abroad according to culinary achievements.
Gault&Millau was founded by two restaurant critics, Henri Gault and Christian Millau, in 1965 in France and is considered one of the most influential restaurants guides. Gault Millau also has guides for various other countries, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Benelux.
35-year-old Executive Chef Stefan Trepp joined Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok in 2009 from a career that has taken him from his native Switzerland to Dubai, and from the Philippines to the USA. His innate passion for innovation has moulded his culinary philosophy that is based on traditional European cooking techniques and artfully articulated in a modern, eclectic style of presentation. At Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok he has offered the highest echelons of Thai society and the world’s rich and famous new heights of fine dining excellence and introduces a new generation of culinary explorers to the sophistication of world class cuisine.
Commenting on the accolade, Trepp said that he is deeply honoured to be recognised with this honour and by his peers. “As a young chef in Switzerland I admired and closely followed the great chefs and restaurants that make the Gault&Millau guide year after year. To now be ranked amongst them is definitely a career highlight for me.”
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok’s General Manager, Amanda Hyndman, congratulated Trepp on his Gault&Millau accolade saying, “This is a fitting honour for our extraordinary talented young Executive Chef who continues the success that has made La Grande Dame Bangkok’s premier gourmet destination.”
