2013 Film Festivals in Palm Springs

Palm Springs, Calif. – 2013-01-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — In 2013, Palm Springs will host six film festivals including the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Native FilmFest, American Documentary Film Festival, Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest and Cinema Diverse.

“The City of Palm Springs is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2013 and special anniversary events will coincide with these film festivals,” said Mary Jo Ginther, Director of Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “Moviegoers will enjoy an array of films and special tributes to the City’s legendary history.”

Palm Springs is rolling out the red carpet for Richard Gere, Helen Mirren, Helen Hunt, Bradley Cooper, Naomi Watts, Sally Field, Robert Zemeckis, and other Hollywood stars attending the 24th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival scheduled for January 3-14, 2013. The world-renowned film festival is one of the largest film festivals in North America and was created in 1990 by then Mayor Sonny Bono. The festival welcomes over 135,000 attendees to enjoy films from more than 60 countries, special events and a black-tie awards gala scheduled for January 5, 2013 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum will present the 12th annual Native FilmFest, formerly known as the Festival of Native Film & Culture, scheduled February 27-March 3, 2013, at the Camelot Theatres. After last year’s successful debut, the American Documentary Film Festival returns to Palm Springs from April 4-8, 2013, and is growing to become the largest documentary film festival on the West Coast. The 13th annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, May 16-19, 2013, is an eclectic mixture of films from the classic Film Noir era. Recognized as one of the world’s premier short film festivals, the Palm Springs International ShortFest will return to the Camelot Theatres in June 2013. Kicking off the fall season in Palm Springs, Cinema Diverse, a gay and lesbian film festival, will showcase the best in LGBT filmmaking including features, documentaries and shorts. In the world of film and television, Palm Springs has been Hollywood’s back lot since the 1930s.
