Zoo Atlanta giraffe Lily left for its new home at Saint Louis Zoo

2013-06-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Long, tall cargo leaves Zoo Atlanta to join a herd in St. Louis

WHO: Lily, a 1-year-old female giraffe, left Zoo Atlanta for a new home at the Saint Louis Zoo on June 24, 2013. Her move was recommended by the Giraffe Species Survival Plan.

WHAT: The young traveler, who now weighs more than 1,100 pounds, departed Atlanta on a 16-foot-long trailer tall enough to accommodate her more than 10-foot height. Once she is acclimated in Saint Louis, Lily will join a herd and will have the opportunity to breed.

Born July 22, 2011, to 7-year-old male Abu and the late Mona, Lily was the second giraffe calf born at Zoo Atlanta. The Zoo is also home to an adult female giraffe, Glenda, 6. Guests may feed the giraffes, which share their habitat with ostriches, zebras and lesser kudus, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily from the Zoo’s Twiga Terrace.
