Wyndham Championship “Tees Up” A Week Full of Gold, Prizes and Charitable Giving

GREENSBORO, N.C., 2012-08-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — At the Wyndham Championship this week, Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, is giving fans an amazing week of golf, vacation and prize giveaways, and the chance to support local charities. Held annually at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship attracts over 80,000 spectators each year, and is the last PGA TOUR stop before the playoffs.

“As a family-oriented company, Wyndham Worldwide is all about creating great vacation memories, which is why we look forward to the Wyndham Championship every year,” said Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and chief executive officer, Wyndham Worldwide. “For many of our guests, it’s among the last vacation days of the summer, and for the players, it’s their last opportunity to earn points towards the FedEx Cup Play-offs.”

In addition to the world-class competition, there is plenty to keep the fans relaxed and entertained at the Wyndham Championship. For example, at “Key to Wyn,” a specially designed expo tent which mimics the feel of a resort lobby, fans have several opportunities to win daily prizes and vacation packages, before testing their skills at the Wyndham Putting Challenge located on the Wyndham Boardwalk presented by Sunbrella. A hospitality hub that evokes the feel of a seaside vacation, the Wyndham Boardwalk is complete with live entertainment, boardwalk snacks, photo booths, and face painting among the many family-friendly offerings.

While checking out the action on the golf course, spectators should also keep their eyes open for the Wyndham Championship Tweet Patrol (#WyndhamChamp), who will be sharing photos of fans on the Wyndham Championship Twitter and Facebook pages, and offering extra “Key to Wyn” chances for spectators tweeting about the Tournament.

And, even the youngest golf enthusiasts can join in on the fun, with sand sculpting clinics held each day of the Tournament. Participants will be taught fun tools and tricks as well as the simple techniques of sand sculpting, all while building their own sand masterpieces. Every sand clinic participant will go home with their own sand toys to take with them on their next vacation.

Since 2006, philanthropy has remained a cornerstone of the Wyndham Championship. For the second year in a row, attendees can cast their vote for their favorite local not-for-profit organization in the “Charity of Choice” campaign. The top 10 charities were determined by an open voting period that was held July 2 – July 20, 2012 on WyndhamChampionship.com and the Wyndham Worldwide Facebook page. The charity that receives the most votes by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday will receive a $100,000 donation from Wishes by Wyndham, the philanthropic foundation of Wyndham Worldwide. Attendees who vote are also automatically entered for a chance to win one of the daily grand prize giveaways. Fans can cast their votes on-site on Thursday, August 16 through Sunday, August 19, with the winning charity being announced at a special ceremony after the Tournament trophy presentation.

“Reflecting our core values at Wyndham Worldwide, we work to support the communities where we operate, and to better the lives of children around the world through Wishes by Wyndham,” said Holmes. “We are extremely proud of the long-standing tradition of charitable giving at the Wyndham Championship.”
