Wizz Air marks its 5th birthday in Riga

BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2019-Jun-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air, the fastest growing airline in Europe, is celebrating its 5th anniversary in Riga. Since WIZZ started operations from Riga, the airline has carried 3.2 million passengers onboard. Wizz Air’s presence has boosted tourism in the region, as Riga has seen an increase in guest nights spent in the city by travelers from abroad.

The first Wizz Air flight from Riga took off in March 2010 and since then the airline has continued to invest in its ever-growing Riga network. In 2014, WIZZ opened the local base in Riga and launched new routes bringing more affordable travel opportunities to the region. In 2018 Wizz Air carried over 600 thousand passengers which equals an 8% year on year growth.

Wizz Air in Latvia has provided not only travel opportunities between Latvia and the rest of Europe, but also stimulated the local labour market in aviation and tourism and other associated industries. In Latvia, Wizz Air employs more than 70 crew members and pilots, who provide excellent service on every flight. WIZZ’s Latvia network consists of 13 routes to 10 countries. This year Wizz Air introduced the new Riga – Eilat route which will commence in October 2019.
