Waymo to launch autonomous ride-hailing service at San José Mineta International Airport later this year
(NEWS) SAN JOSÉ, CA, 2025-Sep-08 — /Travel PR News/ — Waymo has secured approval to operate its autonomous ride-hailing service at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC), marking a significant step toward expanding self-driving transportation in the Bay Area. The rollout will begin with fully autonomous testing using Waymo employees, followed by commercial service for travelers later this year. Once launched, passengers arriving at SJC will be able to request a Waymo ride via the app and be picked up from the airport’s Ground Transportation Centers at Terminals A or B for travel throughout the Bay Area service region.
SJC will become the first commercial international airport in California — and only the second in the world — to host Waymo operations, underscoring the airport’s reputation for innovation and convenience. Local leaders, including San José Mayor Matt Mahan and City Manager Jennifer Maguire, praised the development as a reflection of Silicon Valley’s pioneering spirit and a valuable addition to the region’s transportation network ahead of major global events in 2026. Airport Director Mookie Patel emphasized that Waymo’s deployment demonstrates the compatibility of SJC’s design and infrastructure with advanced technologies, while Waymo’s Annabel Chang highlighted the significance of returning to its Silicon Valley roots with a service that will benefit both residents and visitors.
