Emirates and NBA Cares Deliver Lasting Community Legacy for San Antonio Youth

(NEWS) SAN ANTONIO, TX, United States, 2026-Jun-5 — /Travel PR News/ — Sports partnerships increasingly extend beyond branding and sponsorship rights, with major leagues and corporate partners investing in community projects designed to leave a lasting impact in host cities. Ahead of the NBA Finals, one such initiative has taken shape in San Antonio through a collaboration between Emirates and the NBA.

Emirates, the Official Airline Partner of the NBA, has partnered with NBA Cares to unveil a newly renovated gymnasium and multi-purpose room at The Denver Heights Community Centre (DHCC) in San Antonio, Texas. The project forms part of the NBA Cares Finals Legacy Projects programme, which focuses on creating long-term community benefits in cities hosting major NBA events.

In a press update highlighted by Emirates, the upgraded facility was officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from Emirates, the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs and local government officials, alongside young people from the community centre who will use the new facilities.

The refurbishment included improvements to the gymnasium and multi-purpose room, featuring new fitness equipment, scoreboards, backboards, flooring, graphics and other upgrades designed to create a more modern recreational environment. The multi-purpose space has also been equipped with updated technology and gaming equipment.

The Denver Heights Community Centre serves local youth and families through recreational, educational and community programmes, providing access to safe spaces and activities that support personal development and wellbeing.

As part of the initiative, Emirates distributed backpacks from its Aircrafted by Emirates programme to participating children. The bags are produced using repurposed seat fabric from the airline’s ongoing aircraft retrofit programme and include co-branded Emirates and NBA merchandise. According to Emirates, nearly 4,000 Aircrafted for Kids backpacks have been donated to schools and community organisations worldwide.

Following the official opening, local youth participated in a Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA basketball clinic to celebrate the completion of the project.

The initiative reflects the broader relationship between Emirates and the NBA. In addition to serving as the league’s Official Global Airline Partner, Emirates is also the title partner of the Emirates NBA Cup and a presenting partner of this year’s NBA Cares Finals Legacy Projects.

For Emirates, community-focused programmes have become an increasingly visible component of its global sports sponsorship strategy, complementing partnerships across basketball, football, rugby, tennis and other major sports.
