Tourism Australia makes job offer to one of the unsuccessful applicants in its ‘Best Jobs in the World’ competition

2013-05-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — Tourism Australia has confirmed that it has made a job offer to one of the unsuccessful applicants in its ‘Best Jobs in the World’ competition.

Ellenor Argyropoulos has been offered a job in Tourism Australia’s social media team, where she will use her photography skills to create destination content for its Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ and other channels.

The first task in her exciting role will be to document the week long activities that will form part of the final week of challenges for the top 18 finalists.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said Ellenor had demonstrated such ability to create ‘buzz’ through her photography and videographer skills that they had taken the unusual step of offering her a job within the national tourism organisation.

“Choosing the 18 finalists has certainly proved to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. The standard of the candidates, their passion and creativity in applying for these six dream jobs has blown us all away.

“Such has been the quality of the candidates that Tourism Australia has created its own ‘Best Job’, working for us in our social media team. We needed someone to help us document the 18 finalists as they undergo their exciting final challenges in Australia and, amongst such a talented field of candidates, we were able to find exactly the person we were looking for in Ellenor.

“Ellenor’s photography work is terrific and she comes with very strong references and a proven record of being able to get her work noticed. The fact that she is Australian with a genuine passion for promoting her country makes her even more ideally suited for this special role,” Mr McEvoy said.

Ellenor, 22, is a photographer, cinematographer and director based in Melbourne. She said the job offer had come completely out of the blue.

“I’m absolutely blown away and so excited for this unique opportunity to help Tourism Australia promote Australia by combining my photography and film skills. It’s the ultimate dream job. I can’t wait to meet the 18 finalists, find out their stories and begin documenting their next challenge for the ultimate six winners,” Ellenor said.

Mr McEvoy encouraged other Australian employers to look at grabbing some of the unsuccessful candidates, many of whom would be available to work in Australia under the country’s Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program, the cornerstone of the ‘Best Jobs’ competition.

18 finalists for Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’ – three for each of the six dream jobs – were announced on 15 May and will be flown to Australia in a few weeks to take part in a series of challenges relevant to their chosen job. The six winners will be announced in Sydney on 21 June.

Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’ competition is part of a major international marketing push to promote tourism opportunities provided by Australia’s Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program.

The six ‘best jobs’ are: Wildlife Caretaker (South Australia), Chief Funster (New South Wales), Park Ranger (Queensland), Taste Master (Western Australia), Outback Adventurer (Northern Territory) and Lifestyle Photographer (Melbourne, Victoria).

The campaign is supported by Destination NSW, Tourism NT, Tourism Victoria, Tourism Western Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland and South Australian Tourism Commission.

In addition a number of key commercial partners are supporting the campaign, including Virgin Australia, STA Travel, Citibank, DELL, IKEA, Sony Music and Monster.com.
