Lisbon, Portugal, 2017-Aug-06 — /Travel PR News/ — The American magazine Global Traveler awarded gold and bronze to the wines served in Executive Class
The American magazine Global Traveler has awarded first and third places to the wines that TAP serves in its executive class. The gold went to TAP for its sparkling wine Luís Pato Blanc de Blancs from Bairrada. TAP received the bronze for the wines served on board in executive class. The prize is calculated on the basis of the total number of points given to each wine entered into the competition. Dona Maria (2014) red wine came in fourth and Paulo Laureano Reserva (2015) white came in fifth.
Every year, Global Traveler organises the Wines on the Wing International Airline Wine Competition, a blind tasting by a panel of judges made up of experts in the area, such as producers, distributors, restaurateurs, sommeliers, consultants and critics. They assess wines from different countries served on board airline business classes all over the world.
Airlines are invited to enter two white wines, two red wines and a sparkling wine that they serve on board in business class on their long-haul flights.
This year, the 13th competition took place in New York in June. The results were published in the August edition of the magazine. The prize-giving ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in December.
Abílio Martins, the airline’s Marketing and Communication Vice President, said, “TAP has been on the road towards global expansion, without forgetting what is made in Portugal, its cuisine, traditions and, in this particular case, its wines.” On the subject of Portuguese wines and the airline’s role in promoting them he added, “We know that the wine made in Portugal is good and we want this message to be carried all over the world. This is very important recognition for TAP and for Portugal and encourages us to carry on what we’re doing.”
Readers will remember that TAP recently announced the “TAP Wine Experience”, which is designed to turn the airline into the world’s largest channel for talking about and tasting Portuguese wines. A call for tenders is currently under way for both small and large producers of the country’s wines.
TAP is once again showing its efforts to promote Portugal’s products, especially its wines, which are savoured on board by travellers all over the world.
