World-famous Grand Hotel in Davos gets ready to receive guests once more – luxurious holidays will be back on the agenda from 11 December 2020
Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 2020-Dec-10 — /Travel PR News/ — Everything is geared up for a winter season steeped in tradition. The Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère, the mainstay of the well-known Swiss resort of Davos, will open its doors for business again on 11 December 2020. There is a strong sense of excitement amongst staff members, especially as the enforced closure has also been used to carry out renovation works and to draw up comprehensive hygiene measures in order to allow guests to experience a luxurious five-star holiday in one of the world’s most legendary hotels despite restrictions to some services. The hotel has set aside space to display numerous works by Hans E. Deutsch, a pioneer of abstract art. Cultural enthusiasts will be able to admire this exhibition from day one of the reopening. A finely tuned festive programme has also been designed to keep guests entertained over Christmas.
High-end art exhibition featuring works by Hans E. Deutsch
The Belvédère is staging a special exhibition of selected works by the Swiss-born artist Hans Emil Deutsch, the launch of which will coincide with the reopening on 11 December 2020. This show is set to be a real highlight. Deutsch achieved fame both as a painter and as an art historian and is considered to be a pioneer of European abstract expressionism. His works remain on display in public collections all over the world. The Rembrandt Prize and the Albrecht Dürer Medal were just two of the accolades that came Deutsch’s way during his career. Hans Deutsch died in 2014 at the age of 87. The exhibition at the Belvédère is being staged within the scope of a cooperation agreement concluded between Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts and KENSINGTON Art GmbH as part of the Evolution Steigenberger initiative.
A glittering festive programme
The hotel’s guests can expect to enjoy a stylish atmosphere over the holiday season. The Restaurant Belvédère will be serving up a celebratory seven-course menu on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Also on 25 December, there will be a chance to take a traditional carriage ride to explore the wintry surroundings of Davos. The Swiss artist Urs Rudin will be thrilling audiences on 27 and 28 December 2020 as he presents his extraordinary sand portraits and paintings. On New Year’s Eve, guests will be treated to a high quality five-course menu in the Vinothek and Fonduestube Romeo & Julia.
The Belvédère – a hotel which has acted as an inspiration to renowned guests
The Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère has been part of the fabric of the town of Davos ever since first opening on 17 July 1875. Starting out as an elegant boutique hotel, it slowly transformed into the fin de siècle style romantic palace we know today. The guests have always been just as exclusive as the hotel itself. Erich Kästner’s novel “Der Zauberlehrling” is set at the Belvédère, and artists such as the chansonnier Maurice Chevalier have given enchanting performances here. Other famous authors who have visited the hotel include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson. The latter was suffering from a severe case of writer’s block when he arrived in 1881. By the time he left Davos, however, he had completed a major contribution to world literature in the form of his famous work “Treasure Island”.
Davos – the cradle of winter sport
Guests staying at the Belvédère find themselves at the heart of one of the highest profile skiing regions anywhere in the world. Davos is a true cradle of winter sport and can look back on a rich history. The very first large-scale ski tour in Davos was undertaken by the Branger brothers in 1893. The next year, they were followed by Arthur Conan Doyle, who went on to report on his adventurous experiences in a number of English magazines. The Davos Skiclub was founded ten years later and remains the largest organisation of its kind in Switzerland down to the present day. Modern Davos is a paradise for active holidaymakers which provides countless sporting and leisure opportunities. Exciting options including air boarding, fat biking, curling and ice climbing are all available in the region alongside more traditional winter pursuits such as skiing, cross-country and snowshoe hiking.
