Spirit Airlines Becomes Official Airline of 2013 MiaGreen Conference & Expo

Spirit’s modern fleet, eco-friendly seating configuration and other innovations enable airline to burn less fuel per seat than competitors, making it one of the most environmentally-friendly airlines

Miramar, Florida, 2013-01-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — As Spirit Airlines (NASDAQ: SAVE) continues to expand its green efforts, the company is proud to become the official airline of this year’s MiaGreen Conference & Expo, the Green Convention of the Americas, taking place January 31 and February 1, 2013 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

As Earth’s Favorite Way to Fly, Spirit’s modern fleet, eco-friendly seating configuration and other innovations enable the airline to burn less fuel per seat than competitors, making Spirit one of the most environmentally-friendly U.S. airlines.

MiaGreen is the only event in the United States providing access to the ever-growing green, renewable and sustainable markets for all the Americas. The conference and expo has developed as the one-stop, all-inclusive, interactive conference and marketplace for sustainability combining a major trade show with front edge extensive educational and networking programs.

The MiaGreen Conference & Expo is taking place Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Miami Beach Convention Center – Hall A – 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida 33130. Conferences are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Exhibit Hall hours are from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. For more information, visit www.miagreen.com.

“We are proud to be doing our part to make travel not only more affordable, but more eco-friendly. And yes, you can make a difference on the environment when choosing which airline you fly,” says Spirit’s Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle. “We look forward to showcasing Spirit as Earth’s Favorite Way to Fly at this year’s MiaGreen conference. From our modern fleet and eco-friendly seating configuration among other innovations, Spirit has taken serious measures to reduce our fuel consumption and be more eco-conscious, while at the same time continuing to offer our customers the lowest fares in the industry.”

“We are pleased and honored to have Spirit with us in our upcoming 5th edition,” shared Jose Garcia, President of MiaGreen. “We are aware how sustainable they are in their operations and we want to provide our modest platform to share their initiatives and achievements in this field with our attendees.”

Several years ago Spirit made the conscious decision to transition to a fleet of new, fuel-efficient aircraft and enhanced them with an eco-friendly seating configuration. “We are proud of the fact that we burn far less fuel per passenger than our competitors,” adds Biffle. In fact, Spirit’s aircraft provide an incredible 89.4 passenger miles per gallon.* Spirit has also signed an agreement with Airbus for an order which includes their latest A320neo (new engine option) aircraft, which will be even more fuel efficient than Spirit’s current A320s.

In addition to its fuel-efficient fleet, many customers also appreciate the results of Spirit’s “Bring Less, Pay Less” baggage policy which allows customers to bring one free personal item onboard – namely faster boarding and deplaning, faster security lines and paying lower fares. This program led to a reduction in bags carried per passenger and resulted in Spirit using the equivalent of nearly six million gallons less fuel in the past year. “Six million gallons in fuel savings – now that’s not only a major cost savings that we can pass along to our customers by way of low fares, but also a major positive impact on the environment thanks to our customers,” says Biffle.

Typically you have to spend more money to help save the environment. But customers save money with the ultra low fares for which Spirit is famous. “Our customers get it. They’re bringing less, paying less and helping us save the environment,” adds Biffle.
