Southwest Airlines announces new nonstop service between Kansas City International Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Kansas City, MO, 2016-Nov-14 — /Travel PR News/ — Southwest Airlines announced today that it will begin nonstop service between Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas, on March 13, 2017 with one daily nonstop flight. The service will be operated with Boeing 737 aircraft. Ranked by daily passengers, Austin is the largest destination from Kansas City without nonstop air service, with 98 passengers per day each way.

“With nearly 100 daily passengers making connections between Kansas City and Austin every day, this new nonstop flight will greatly improve the travel experience, cutting elapsed travel times nearly in half,” said Pat Klein, Aviation Director for Kansas City. “Austin is currently Kansas City’s top destination without nonstop service and I’m especially grateful to Southwest Airlines for adding yet another nonstop route between Kansas City and Texas.

Southwest launched nonstop service to San Antonio, Texas, on November 6. Kansas City to Austin becomes Southwest’s fourth nonstop route between Kansas City and Texas (DAL, HOU, SAT, AUS). Austin becomes the 47th nonstop destination served from Kansas City. With the addition of Austin, Southwest flies to 30 nonstop destinations from KCI. The Austin flights will depart KCI at 2:10 p.m. and arrive at 4:10 p.m. and the return flights will depart 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Kansas City at 1:40 p.m. Introductory fares begin as low as $89 one way and are available for purchase at Southwest.com.

“Austin and Kansas City are major population and commercial centers that are inextricably tied together through both the commodity- and digital-based economies of our country,” said Kansas City Area Development Council President & CEO Tim Cowden. “Both markets have had significant success in the development and growth of the information technology sector, and were pioneers in the rollout of the ultra-high speed Google fiber network. The music scene in both markets is vibrant. Austin is known internationally for its music/cultural/tech festival South by Southwest and Kansas City for its Middle of the Map Fest. They are true peer cities!”
