Sheremetyevo ranked 36th among the top 50 International Megahubs by OAG

MOSCOW, Russia, 2018-Oct-01 — /Travel PR News/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport is the only Russian airport that entered the top 50 International Megahubs. According to the OAG Megahubs International Index Sheremetyevo ranked 36th among the top 50 International Megahubs and 10th among the Top International Megahubs by Region Europe, Middle East and Africa. The leaders of the index are Heathrow (LHR), O’Hare (ORD) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA). The index is based on the calculation of the total number of all possible connections between inbound and outbound flights within a six-hour window, where either the inbound, outbound, or both flights are international, at the largest 200 airports in the world (based on total scheduled seats in July 2018) and at the largest 200 international airports (based on total international scheduled seats in July 2018) on the busiest day for global aviation over the 12 months to July 2018.

Advantageous geographical location, continuous development of non-aviation services and effective organization of ground operations allows Sheremetyevo to handle large traffic of passengers during peak loads effectively which in turn increases the attractiveness of the airport as an international hub.

The route map of Sheremetyevo exceeds 220 destinations. Sheremetyevo’s transfer passenger traffic last year reached 14.8 million people, which is 37% of the total passenger flow of the airport. The most popular routes on which passengers had a stopover at SVO were Tel-Aviv, Shanghai, New York, Beijing and Yerevan.

Sheremetyevo is the leading European airport in terms of transit passenger traffic between China and European countries. Sheremetyevo serves 8 Chinese airlines, which carry out flights on 19 routes.

Transit passengers, travelling through Sheremetyevo can enjoy an extensive range of services offered at the Southern Terminal Complex. They may choose among three capsule hotels located in the airside: GettSleep (Terminal D), «Vozdushny Express» (Terminal E) and GoSleep.Moscow (Terminal E).

Opened in May, 2018, the Southern and the Northern terminal complexes are connected with an underground interterminal passage with both passenger and luggage tunnels. Due to it, not only passengers can now switch between terminals within 4 min, ride but the overall connecting time within all the terminals was reduced to 50 min.
