Sheremetyevo International Airport is the best European airport in passenger service quality

2013-03-13 — /travelprnews.com/ — Today, on March 12, 2013 an annual press conference of Mikhail Vasilenko, General Director of Sheremetyevo International Airport, has been held, dedicated to the results of year 2012 and prospective plans for the airport development.

The press conference began with announcement of results on Sheremetyevo Airport participation in ACI ASQ, an independent and the most prestigious research programmes on Airport Service Quality, which were presented by Olivier Jankovec, General Director of ACI Europe, during TV link-up from ACI Europe Headquarters from Brussels.

According to the results of Airport Service Quality research program of ACI Sheremetyevo International Airport was recognized as the best European airport in service quality and took the leading position in European region. Sheremetyevo Airport became the first Russian airport which was awarded with the top position of honour in this independent ASQ rating and received worldwide recognition among passengers and experts.

Olivier Jankovec, General Director of ACI Europe, noted particularly that “Sheremetyevo Airport keeps the considerable passenger traffic increase and high service quality harmony, which is an evidence of the management and personnel commitment to the company’s strategic goals in passenger service quality and satisfaction”.

Recall that participation of Sheremetyevo Airport in ASQ programme commenced in the second quarter of year 2010 and already according to the results of year 2011 the airport was among the top ten European airports.

During the press conference M.M. Vasilenko, General Director of Sheremetyevo Airport, said: “Six years ago we have set an unprecedented goal for Russian airports — to be the best airport in service quality in Europe in 2015. Despite external and internal difficulties the management and the team showed a high professionalism, dedication and reached new heights in the three years ahead of schedule”.

M.M. Vasilenko announced the performance results of year 2012. It was noted that the airport fulfilled its plan for 2012 in all key performance indicators. Moreover Sheremetyevo Airport achieved more record-breaking indicators — passenger traffic has been increased by 16.1% and equaled to 26 million 188 thousand passengers. Number of takeoff and landing operations has been increased by 8.6% and achieved level of 228.8 thousand of takeoff and landing operations. Moreover the flights punctuality was maintained at a high level and amounted for 89.1%, which is of a prime importance for the scheduled transfer of passengers in a timely manner.

It is planned that in 2013 passenger traffic in Sheremetyevo Airport will continue to increase and quantity of passengers received services will amount for 29 million people.

Revenue for year 2012 reached 15.182 billion rubles which is 66% more than in 2011, and earnings from non-aviation activities amounted for 6.238 billion rubles (81% more than in 2011).

One of the strategic projects for year 2013 is construction of the third separate runway (R-3). According to the Government contract the construction is to be completed at the end of year 2015.

On August 28, 2012 the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) issued a permission for construction of the third runway (R-3) at Sheremetyevo International Airport to Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Administration of Civil Airports (airdromes)” (FSUE “ACA(a)”. FSUE “ACA(a)” acts as a Customer-Developer of works under this project. Closed Joint Stock Company “Engineering Corporation “Transstroy” acts as a Contractor under this project.

R-3 construction will allow us to provide comprehensive strategic development of the national air carrier “Aeroflot-RA” and other airlines which are partners of Sheremetyevo Airport, as well as to increase annual passenger service capacity up to 65 mln people by 2030 and to balance passenger terminals capacity with Sheremetyevo airdrome capacity.

In 2013 a number of preparatory measures will be implemented to ensure airport’s availability for extensive servicing of passengers and guests of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014. These measures are implemented in cooperation with Autonomous Non-profit Organization Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Autonomous Non-profit Organization Olympic Games Transport Directorate and OJSC Aeroflot-RA. And for these purposes it is continued to improve airport availability for all passenger categories, including passengers with reduced mobility.

One of the major projects of Sheremetyevo Airport is development of the North Terminal Complex involving construction of a terminal of 40 million passengers’ capacity. This is specified in the Sheremetyevo Airport Master plan developed till 2030. The first phase of the new complex with capacity of 10 million passengers will be located instead of Terminal B. In this sector an exit from the subway is designed which will connect the South and the North sectors of the airport. Construction of the subway and the new passenger terminal is planned to be completed together with R-3 construction completion. The Subway construction will be carried out on terms of Public and Private Partnership.

This spring a new corporate uniform for personnel servicing airport’s passengers and guests will be introduced in Sheremetyevo Airport. The uniform was designed by Denis Simachev, a famous Russian fashion designer. The new uniform embodies principles of actual airport image — modern, practical, harmonic and open hub. It is designed as a part of brand image renewal for the state airport of Russia and its capital.

Sheremetyevo International Airport — the largest Russian airport handling international flights. The Russian Federation represented by the Federal Agency for State Property Management (83,04%) is the major shareholder of JSC MASH. Destination network of Sheremetyevo Airportconstitutes more than 200 directions.

Sheremetyevo Airport services are used by representatives of three major aviation alliances: SkyTeam (Air France, KLM, Delta, CSA Czech Airlines, Alitalia, China Southern Airlines, Korean Air and other); Star Alliance (SAS, Air China, LOT , Adria Airways and other); Oneworld (Finnair). Moreover the airport cooperates with the leading air carriers of CIS and Baltic countries.

According to the results of 2012 Sheremetyevo Airport passenger traffic amounted to 26 mln 188 thous. people, which is 16.1% more than in 2011.

According to the annual rating prepared by Skytrax Research Company (UK), Sheremetyevo International Airport belongs to the top three of the East European airports offering the best service quality.
