2013-01-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — One hundred and seventy-seven years ago, Alamo commander William Barrett Travis wrote an urgent letter requesting aid during the Alamo’s siege. Now, for the first time since its drafting, the letter will make its ceremonious return to the Alamo, where it will be displayed on February 23 through March 7.
The letter, written on February 24, 1836, details the challenges Alamo defenders faced during the 13-day battle, which ultimately led to the Alamo’s takeover by the Mexican army. Travis’ underlined closing words, “Victory or Death,” serve as a chilling reminder of the hard fought battle.
Once the letter is transported from its current location in the Texas State Capitol building in Austin, visitors can view this significant piece of history in the main hall of the Alamo during February 23 – March 7, coinciding with the anniversary of the historic battle (February 23 – March 6, 1836).
