The Chicago Department of Aviation has rapidly grown O’Hare’s social media fan base over the last 18 months by posting a wide variety of airport news and photos that are informative, educational, fun, and always timely. In fact, O’Hare had the highest airport Facebook fan growth rate in 2013 at 16.4 percent according to airline social media tracker SimpliFlying.
Travelers, Chicago residents and aviation enthusiasts around the world visit O’Hare’s Facebook page for information on current flight operations during inclement weather, travel tips, discounts on concessions, or to simply marvel at fascinating photos taken by passengers during their travel through Chicago’s global gateway.
The most popular post to date was a photo shared with @flyohare on Twitter of a view of the Chicago skyline seen through the clouds by a passenger onboard a flight. It received close to 1,000 likes from fans of the page. Coming in a close second was a Throwback Thursday photo showing the difference in airfield views of O’Hare from 1945 and 2014. “Travelin’ Triva”, which poses questions such as “What happened to Terminal 4?” is one of the more popular reoccurring posts on O’Hare’s page.
