(PRESS RELEASE) MASCOT, Australia, 2025-May-7 — /Travel PR News/ — Qantas is expanding its international network with two exciting new routes launching in December 2025, providing direct flights from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg. These new services will offer more connection options for Australian travelers, reinforcing Qantas’ growth as a major hub for Western Australia.
The new routes, available for booking now, will add over 155,000 seats annually to Perth’s international capacity, supporting local economic growth and boosting tourism in Western Australia. These flights are also a result of federal government funding, which has enabled Perth Airport to enhance its border and biosecurity capabilities, ensuring the smooth operation of additional international services.
Qantas’ Commitment to Western Australia and Global Connectivity
“The introduction of these two new international routes from Perth to Auckland and Johannesburg marks a major step in expanding connectivity for Australia,” said Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International. “Not only will these routes offer more travel options for Australians, but they also open up significant inbound tourism opportunities for Western Australia and create new jobs in the region. This is part of our ongoing effort to grow our network and provide customers with more travel choices, both domestically and internationally.”
The new Perth to Auckland route will offer West Australians a convenient one-stop connection to New York via Auckland on Qantas’ popular QF3 service. The Perth to Johannesburg route provides a vital link to South Africa, and customers can connect to Cape Town and other cities through Qantas’ partnership with Airlink.
Exciting New Developments at Perth Airport
Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, commented: “The launch of these new services is fantastic news for Western Australia. As a growing aviation hub, Perth is positioned to offer more opportunities for tourism and travel. With Qantas’ expanding operations at our airport, including additional capacity in Terminals 3 and 4, we look forward to continuing to enhance our international services as we work on new terminal facilities for the future.”
Further Enhancements to Qantas’ International Schedule
Qantas also announced additional improvements to its international services, including the introduction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on daily Brisbane to Los Angeles flights starting in October 2025. This will increase premium seat availability, including new options in Premium Economy.
Additionally, Qantas and American Airlines will continue their successful partnership with seasonal flight adjustments for the Australian summer. Between December 2025 and January 2026, Qantas will operate daily flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles using the Boeing 787, alongside American Airlines’ three weekly flights. Qantas will also increase its Melbourne to Dallas flights to daily services during the same period.
As part of these changes, Jetstar will cease operations between Sydney and Honolulu after October 24, 2025, with Qantas taking over the route, operating 5 to 6 services per week between Sydney and Honolulu.
