Marriott International ranked the World’s Most Admired Lodging Company by FORTUNE

Highest ranked Washington metro area company.

Bethesda, Md., 2014-3-4 — /Travel PR News/ — For the 14th time, Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) has been ranked the World’s Most Admired Lodging Company by FORTUNE.   Ranking 39 out of the top 50 companies across the globe, Marriott is also the highest ranked company on the list in its headquarters region, which includes the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

Already ranked by FORTUNE earlier this year as one of “The Best Places to Work”, the ranking on The World’s Most Admired List is even more prestigious as is it the gauge by which corporate reputation is measured. The list will appear in the March 18 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands now and at www.fortune.com.

Marriott ranked #1 in four of nine reputation attributes identified by FORTUNE:  people management; social responsibility; quality of management; and financial soundness.

“Being named to this list is a direct result of our company’s core values and our associates who are dedicated to demonstrating these values every day in our hotels around the world,” said Carl Berquist, executive vice president and CFO for Marriott.  “We are honored to be recognized for our best-in-class brands, business model, strong leadership team and our corporate citizenship.”

Marriott’s corporate responsibility practices have also been recognized by Ethisphere Institute, FTSE4Good, The Keystone Center and Climate Counts.  For a list of other awards and recognition, visit http://news.marriott.com/awards-and-recognition.html.

METHODOLOGY
The Most Admired list is the definitive report card on corporate reputations. The Hay Group facilitates the survey, starting with approximately 1,400 companies across the globe.  To create the 57 industry lists, Hay asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. A company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed. To arrive at the top 50 Most Admired Companies overall, the Hay Group asked the 3,800 respondents to select the 10 companies they admired most, from a list made up of the companies that ranked in the top 25 percent in last year’s survey, plus those that finished in the top 20 percent of their industry. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry, which is why some results may seem anomalous.

Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) is a leading lodging company based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, with more than 3,900 properties in 72 countries and territories and reported revenues of nearly $13 billion in fiscal year 2013.  The company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts under 18 brands.
