Lufthansa, Fraport and zeroG Roll Out AI System “seer” to Optimize Aircraft Handling at Frankfurt

(IN SHORT) Lufthansa, Fraport AG, and tech subsidiary zeroG are rolling out “seer,” an AI-powered camera system designed to enhance aircraft turnaround efficiency at Frankfurt Airport. After a successful pilot program, “seer” is being implemented at more aircraft positions, with plans for widespread deployment. The system captures and timestamps key ground handling steps in real time, improving data accuracy and coordination across teams. By uniting expertise in operations, technology, and airport management, the collaboration aims to boost punctuality, streamline processes, and elevate passenger satisfaction.

(PRESS RELEASE) FRANKFURT, Germany, 2025-Jul-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Lufthansa and Fraport AG have entered into a strategic agreement to enhance ground handling operations at Frankfurt Airport through the deployment of a cutting-edge camera-based AI system known as “seer.” Developed by Lufthansa’s tech subsidiary zeroG, the solution leverages real-time computer vision to improve operational transparency and on-time performance.

This intelligent system monitors every key step in the turnaround process—from docking the passenger bridge to baggage loading and refueling—by capturing video footage and applying AI to automatically generate precise timestamps for each event. These data points are integrated into a centralized database, creating a shared, real-time overview of handling activities for all stakeholders.

Following a successful pilot between February and May 2024 at select aircraft stands, “seer” is now live at five parking positions and is expected to expand to 20 by the end of the third quarter. A full-scale deployment across Frankfurt Airport is planned thereafter.

“Transparent ground processes enable us to further improve our punctuality and service quality,” stated Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines. “With innovative technologies like ‘seer,’ we’re modernizing operations while collaborating more effectively with our partners.”

The joint effort brings together Lufthansa’s operational knowledge, Fraport’s airport management expertise, and zeroG’s technical prowess in AI and computer vision. zeroG serves as the backbone of the project, having developed the system’s underlying intelligence to integrate seamlessly into existing workflows.

“This collaboration underscores how data-driven solutions can transform airport operations,” said Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG. “AI-powered visibility enables our teams and partners to better coordinate activities, ultimately enhancing service quality and operational resilience.”

Manuel van Esch, Managing Director of zeroG, highlighted the system’s practical value: “Turnaround processes are highly complex and time-sensitive. By applying camera-based AI, we give airlines and airports the ability to observe, analyze, and control operations in real time—driving both efficiency and punctuality.”

The initiative exemplifies how cooperative innovation in aviation can set new global benchmarks, not only fortifying Frankfurt Airport’s role as a major hub but also paving the way for smarter, more agile ground operations worldwide.
