Lufthansa announced special flight timetable for the XXII Winter Olympics and Paralympics

Cologne, Germany, 2014-1-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — Today at 9.40 a.m. a Lufthansa Airbus A321 with flight number LH 1474 left Frankfurt Airport for the first flight to Sochi. Lufthansa is the Official Carrier of the German Olympic team and the National Paralympic Committee and has drawn up a special flight timetable for the XXII Winter Olympics and Paralympics. It enables not only the athletes, trainers and media representatives, but all sports enthusiasts to get to the Black Sea comfortably: directly from Frankfurt am Main with no transfers. This will enable the athletes to optimise their preparation for the competition and fans to save their energy for cheering in the stadium or out on the pistes. From today Lufthansa will be flying a total of 27 times to the venue from Frankfurt and Munich.

Austria’s top athletes are also flying to Sochi with the Lufthansa Group. Austrian Airlines is again the official airline of the Austrian team, flying 13 times directly from Vienna to the Black Sea.

Christoph Franz, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of the Lufthansa Group: “We are delighted to be flying the German athletes, partners and fans to the Olympic Games and Paralympics in Sochi and wish them all good luck, great sporting successes and plenty of medals.”

To get Olympics fans and athletes in the right mood for the big sporting event before they take off, there are two special Olympic check-in desks at Frankfurt exclusively for the use of Olympians and fans. From counters 450 and 451 in departure hall B at terminal 1, our passengers will be guided by specially designed signs in a countdown format to gate B24, which has also been decorated in a special design – Your Gate to Sochi 2014!

The official send-off for the German Olympic team will take place on 4 February. Christoph Franz will be there on the day to bid ‘bon voyage’ to DOSB General Director and chef de mission, Dr Michael Vesper, as well as the athletes and their attendants.
