2013-08-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — Deputy Kevin Lewis, the Minister for Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has announced that he will be allowing free parking in certain car parks during the proposed bus strike scheduled for Thursday 22, Friday 23, Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 August.
Lay-bys 1 – 5 (from West Park through to the first lay-by west of First Tower) and Pier Road multi storey car park will be free during strike days.
Although, LibertyBus do have plans to operate a skeleton bus service during the proposed strike, The Minister for TTS has taken this action to minimise the hardship for bus customers who have to use their cars during the period of industrial action.
LibertyBus will be publicising their restricted timetable for strike days on their website and at Liberation Station on Wednesday 21 August. They will also be operating a Sunday service on Bank Holiday Monday 26 August.
Deputy Kevin Lewis, the Minister for TTS said:
“Of course I’d like to see as many passengers as possible accommodated on the buses that will be running during the strike, but it will not be a full service and a proportion of the 18,000 daily passengers will have to find another way to travel. Obviously, I hope there will be some who will be able to walk, cycle or get a lift, but I realise for others the only option will be to drive their cars and this unusual measure is really to help them.”
