31st running of Jersey Paperclix Rally 11-12 October 2013

2013-08-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — During October  when the Island slips gently from summer to golden autumn, it is time to welcome members of the rally fraternity, for 31st running of the Paperclix Jersey Rally. Thanks to the tolerance and understanding of islanders this is one of the few rallies left in the UK that is still run entirely on public roads.

Jersey’s narrow and twisty lanes which are edged in many sections with rugged granite walls will as ever prove to be a tough challenge. This year the organisers expect 80 or so crews to enter the event. A goodly number of these entrants will come from the UK and our sister islands with their families and helpers providing a much needed boost to the Islands tourism industry in the more difficult shoulder months.

This year the event features the lovely lanes in the east of the island with stages in Trinity, St Martin, Grouville and St Clement.  Saturday morning will see the only western stages in St Ouen and St Mary.

The organisers are confident of a top class field again. The UK entries are likely to be headed by the triple winners Simon Mauger and Brian Cammack in their Escort Mk 2.

There is also lots of local interest as entries are confidently expected from last year’s runner up and top Jersey crew, Stevie Leonard and Sion Humphries in another Escort Mk2. and third placed Jeremy Baudains and James Ollivro, also in an Escort M2. Could this be the year we see a Jersey winner again?

Rumours also abound that the exciting 4×4 Metros will be making reappearance to thrill and entertain the crowds as they did last year.

For those who enjoy motor sport this will once again be a weekend not to miss indeed this is a major highlight of the Jersey sporting scene.

All the entrants can be seen in-between stages at this year’s rally base, the RJ and HS show ground which is also the location of the official finish of the event.

There are also a number of displays and stands to keep all the family busy in-between stages. Entrance is free.

Full details of the stages and a full entry list as well as up to the minute results during the event can be found from mid September on www.jerseyrally.com.
