In preparation, JAL has transferred its electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) operations to Soracle Corporation, a joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation created to manage eVTOL air transport. Soracle will serve as the main sponsor for eVTOL operations at the Expo, while JAL retains a share in the company and continues to support the initiative. Soracle was established on June 3, 2024, with equal ownership between JAL and Sumitomo Corporation.
(PRESS RELEASE) Tokyo, Japan, 2024-Oct-7 — /Travel PR News/ — Japan Airlines (JAL) has been appointed as the operator for the “Future Society Showcase Project Exhibition” at the “Smart Mobility Expo” focusing on “Advanced Air Mobility” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. As part of its preparations, JAL has been working on implementing point-to-point operations using electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL), which will connect various locations within and beyond the Expo site.
Recently, JAL transferred its eVTOL operation business to Soracle Corporation, a newly established joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation specifically created to manage air transportation using eVTOL technology. Moving forward, Soracle will serve as the primary sponsor for eVTOL operations at the Expo, while JAL retains its stake in the venture and continues to support the initiative.
Soracle Corporation, established on June 3, 2024, is focused on the eVTOL air transport business, which is currently undergoing certification processes. The joint venture is equally owned by JAL and Sumitomo Corporation, each holding a 50% stake, with a total capital of 200 million yen.
