(NEWS) PARIS, 2026-Jan-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Accor has announced plans to introduce the Sofitel name to Rishikesh with the signing of Sofitel Rishikesh Narendra Nagar, a high-end resort development scheduled to open in 2030. The project marks a significant expansion of Accor’s luxury portfolio in India and places one of its most recognisable brands in a destination globally associated with wellness, spirituality and natural beauty.
Set across eight acres in Narendra Nagar, overlooking the Ganges valley and the Himalayan foothills, the resort will feature 160 rooms and suites designed to blend contemporary luxury with regional craftsmanship. According to details shared in the company’s official announcement, the property is intended to offer guests a sense of tranquillity shaped by panoramic mountain views, landscaped gardens and the sounds of flowing water from the surrounding landscape.
Dining will form a central part of the guest experience, with five venues planned across the resort. These include a signature restaurant, rooftop dining, a poolside bar and grill, and a lobby lounge and bar, each combining Sofitel’s French-inspired culinary approach with Indian flavours and traditions. The focus on gastronomy reflects the brand’s broader strategy of positioning food and beverage as a core element of luxury travel experiences.
Wellness is another defining pillar of the development. As outlined in the press release, the resort will include two swimming pools, a Sofitel Spa spanning more than 600 square metres with six treatment rooms, a modern fitness centre, and curated yoga and meditation programmes inspired by Rishikesh’s long-standing spiritual heritage. Together, these facilities aim to position the resort as a destination for rejuvenation-focused travel rather than a conventional leisure stay.
The property is also designed to attract events and celebrations, with more than 2,000 square metres of banqueting space planned across indoor ballrooms and outdoor lawns, as well as a dedicated bridal suite. This positions the resort to cater to weddings, wellness retreats, meetings and incentive travel, segments that continue to grow within India’s luxury hospitality market.
The project is being developed in partnership with the Dangayach Group, which brings decades of experience across hospitality, real estate and luxury sectors. Based on official statements from both parties, the collaboration reflects a shared focus on craftsmanship, authenticity and sustainability. The resort will be a new-build development and is expected to incorporate Accor’s latest environmental standards under its Planet 21 and Gaia 2.0 frameworks.
When completed, Sofitel Rishikesh Narendra Nagar is expected to strengthen Accor’s footprint in India’s luxury leisure segment while contributing to Rishikesh’s growing reputation as an international destination for wellness, culture and sustainable tourism.
