The company continues to expand across all brand segments, including luxury, premium, and essentials, while conversions have become a major growth driver. With sustained investment and a robust pipeline, IHG is strengthening its position as a leading hospitality operator in Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, UK, 2026-Mar-24 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts has reported strong growth across its European operations, achieving a record year in 2025 and surpassing a major milestone of 150,000 open rooms in the region. This figure now represents approximately 15% of the company’s global portfolio, underscoring Europe’s growing importance within IHG’s overall strategy.

Over the past three years, IHG has added more than 32,800 rooms in Europe, marking a 27% increase in capacity. This expansion has been supported by favorable market conditions, including strong investment activity and sustained demand for travel across the region. In 2025 alone, hotel investment in Europe reached €27 billion across more than 1,050 properties, while international arrivals approached 793 million, reinforcing the continent’s position as a leading global travel destination.

The company recorded significant operational momentum during the year, opening 102 hotels and signing 117 new properties across Europe. IHG also strengthened its brand portfolio through the acquisition of Ruby, a premium urban lifestyle brand, further enhancing its presence in key city destinations. The Group’s European footprint now includes more than 1,230 hotels across over 40 countries, spanning both operational and pipeline properties.

Germany continues to play a central role in IHG’s regional expansion, accounting for more than 20% of the company’s open rooms and nearly 20% of its development pipeline. The country’s strong domestic market and outbound travel demand contribute to broader performance gains across IHG’s European and global networks.

Karin Sheppard, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, highlighted the company’s strategic approach to growth, emphasizing a focus on scaling the portfolio while maintaining strong investment in its brands and operational capabilities. She noted that the milestone of 150,000 rooms reflects both sustained expansion and the commitment of teams across the region to delivering high-quality guest experiences.

IHG’s growth spans all segments of its portfolio, including Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials, and Suites. Recent developments include high-profile openings such as Six Senses London and InterContinental Prague, alongside continued expansion of brands like Kimpton, Vignette Collection, voco, and the Holiday Inn family. New additions such as the Noted Collection and the integration of Ruby further strengthen the company’s premium offering.

Conversions have become a key driver of expansion, accounting for 84% of room openings and 61% of signings in 2025. This trend reflects increasing owner interest in leveraging IHG’s established brands, distribution systems, and loyalty platforms to accelerate market entry and reduce development risk.

IHG’s largest markets in Europe include the UK and Ireland, Germany, France, and Spain, all of which continue to contribute to the company’s growth trajectory. With a strong pipeline and ongoing investment, IHG is well positioned to build on its momentum and further expand its presence across Europe’s diverse hospitality landscape.
