Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort Completes Multi-Million-Dollar Makeover of the Coral Ballroom

Facility Renovation Includes Pre-Function Areas, Ballroom

HONOLULU, 2012-09-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort has completed a $7.6 million makeover of its 27,054 square-foot Coral Ballroom, located in the resort’s Mid-Pacific Conference Center.

The new design is sophisticated and contemporary while retaining the area’s coral theme and neutral tones. The renovations included the replacement of carpeting, wall coverings and chandeliers with a color scheme inspired by the sea elements of oyster, coral and land elements of sandalwood and medium wood tones. Complementing the work in the ballroom and pre-function area are upgrades to the public restrooms adjacent to the ballroom, which reflect new fixtures and lighting, along with decorative stone tiles.

Interior Designer Carl Ross of Design Group Carl Ross, Inc. felt that it was important for the design direction to pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Coral Ballroom, its extensive coral collection and the original murals. The color palette is a neutral one, incorporating accents of the unique colors found in the many types of coral.

“Our interior design approach is on a comprehensive and holistic basis,” said Ross. “As opposed to a traditional ballroom with rectilinear geometry, the design is more contemporary and draws its inspiration from organic forms and highly textured coral shapes with irregular edges.

The ballroom’s lighting is one of the focal points of the new look with new decorative chandeliers, suspended from the existing array of 32 pyramid coffers. The spiraling revolutions were styled to thematically incorporate the natural occurring coral shapes and colorations.

The ballroom entry niches and their surround are clad in stacked coral shell stone slabs, adding grandeur to each entrance. The existing doors have been replaced with contemporary wood-stained doors and lit coral transom panels above. Each entry door at the pre-function area has custom designed pulls which are related to the coral scheme and sculpture at the transom. Carpet patterning also relates to organic forms and is scaled to create the feeling for the event attendees that this is clearly a grand and elegant convention meeting space.

“The Coral Ballroom has undergone a complete transformation and we are thrilled to share it with our customers, ” said Jerry Gibson, Hilton Worldwide area vice president and managing director. “We anticipate that the ballroom will be in even more demand than ever as event planners see the beauty and scope of the redesign.

The Coral Ballroom, which is Oahu’s largest capacity hotel ballroom, can accommodate up to 3,775 people for receptions and 2,600 for banquets. The ballroom can be divided into five smaller rooms, with capacities from 200 to 1,135 depending on the type of function. The 15,258 Coral Lounge pre-function area has a capacity of 1,754 for receptions. The Coral Lounge also can be converted into exhibition space for conventions and conferences.

Hilton Hawaiian Village boasts three complete conference centers on its 22 acres, including the Mid-Pacific Conference Center, Tapa Conference Center and Kalia Executive Conference Center. More than 30 breakout rooms and outstanding outdoor venues round out the more than 150,000 square feet of meeting, convention and outdoor function space.
