Hamburg Airport expects significant traffic disruption due to roadworks on Fuhlsbüttel bypass

Roadworks on Fuhlsbüttel bypass restrict approach and exit routes

Hamburg, Germany, 2013-10-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Hamburg State Agency for Roads, Bridges and Waterways (LSBG) is renewing the road surface on the B433 Fuhlsbüttel bypass (airport) from the city heading north. The roadworks will take place from 14 to 27 October, 2013, in four phases. Each phase will cause different disruptions to traffic flow.

Significant traffic delays are therefore to be expected when driving to the airport, heading north from the city centre, and when driving from the airport to the north.

Hamburg Airport asks all passengers and visitors coming from the direction of the city centre to either allow more time to reach the airport during this construction period, or to use public transport. Please pay attention to the special road signs.

The four roadwork phases in detail
(expected durations, subject to change without notice)

  • From 14 to 18 October, the route from the inner city to the airport and from the airport heading north will be restricted: from the Sengelmannstrasse / Zeppelinstrasse tunnel onwards, only one of the two lanes will be open and a slight change to traffic flow will be necessary.
  • From 5pm on 18 October to 20 October, travel from the inner city to the airport via the B433 Fuhlsbüttel Bypass will be very restricted, which may result in severe disruption to traffic. From Alsterkrugchaussee and Weg beim Jäger, traffic to the airport will be redirected via Flughafenstrasse. The approach to the airport using the 433 Fuhlsbüttel Bypass will still be possible from City Nord via Sengelmannstrasse – Zeppelinstrasse and when coming from the north.
  • From 22 to 23 October, travel from the airport heading north via the B433 Fuhlsbüttel Bypass will not be possible, which will result in severe disruption to traffic leaving the airport. Detours will be signposted.
  • From 26 to 27 October, travel from the airport heading north via the B433 Fuhlsbüttel Bypass will not be possible, which will result in severe disruption to traffic leaving the airport. Detours will be signposted. Motorists heading north from the inner city via the B433 Fuhlsbüttel Bypass will only be able to drive as far as the airport. From there, the B433 will be blocked heading north.

It is essential that this repair work is carried out now, so that during the planned expansion of the A7, commencing in the spring of 2014, no additional traffic disruptions are caused by other roadworks.
