Great Dane Airlines adds Edinburgh to its route pack

Great Dane Airlines commenced its twice-weekly operation from Aalborg to Edinburgh on 27 June. The service to the Scottish capital is the Danish regional carrier’s only route to the UK.

Aalborg, Denmark, 2019-Jun-28 — /Travel PR News/ —  Great Dane Airlines has launched twice-weekly (Mondays and Thursdays) services from Aalborg to Edinburgh on 27 June. Flown by the airline’s 118-seat ERJ-195 aircraft, the route to the Scottish capital is currently the only UK service operated by Great Dane and is the only service to Aalborg in the UK outside of London.

Aalborg becomes the third Danish route offered from Scotland’s busiest airport and joins Edinburgh’s existing services to Copenhagen (16 weekly flights) and Billund (twice-weekly flights). With the addition of this new 508-mile sector, no other airport in Scotland serves more destinations in Denmark than Edinburgh.

“From Aalborg Airport’s point of view, Great Dane Airlines has located an unfulfilled market potential for both leisure and business traffic – in terms of a medium aircraft capacity, which match the demand for a direct route to Edinburgh,” states Aalborg Airport CEO Søren Svendsen. The carrier is based in Aalborg, and alongside its scheduled services it will also offer charter flights from the Danish airport.

“Today’s first flight to Edinburgh marks another step towards achieving our mission of bringing increased connectivity to Northern Jutland,” said Great Dane Airlines Founder and CEO Thomas Hugo Møller. “The Danes have always loved travelling to the UK, for its history, sport and culture which made the Scottish capital an obvious choice, along with Dublin and Nice, for our first scheduled services. Edinburgh also fits into our strategy of flying to popular destinations from Aalborg which have in the past been too thin to support profitable narrow body operations.”

“We’re adding another destination and another airline to our list and as an airport that seeks to grow through choice, we are happy to bring Aalborg and Great Dane Airlines onboard,” said Jonathan Rayner, Aviation Director at Edinburgh Airport. “We’re sure our fantastic capital city and country will be a huge draw for visitors and look forward to connecting our two cities.”

Due to this expansion in capacity, Edinburgh now offers over 3,400 weekly seats to the Nordic nation, with Great Dane joining incumbent carriers easyJet, Norwegian, Ryanair and SAS, which already fly to Denmark from the airport. Of the 37 country markets currently served from the UK’s sixth busiest airport, Denmark is the 13th largest as a result of the new service to Aalborg.
