The region’s leading aviation training hub to lead the development of a programme in an initiative to unify aviation training standards globally
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 2012-11-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), the training arm of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), was unanimously elected to chair the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) TRAINAIR Plus Steering Committee. This announcement was made during the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Global Symposium held in Singapore from the 25th to 28th September 2012, where all members voted for GCAS to Chair this leading committee with Dr. Othman Al Khoori, Vice President Human Resources and Administration at ADAC & General Manager of GCAS, selected as the Chairman.
The TRAINAIR PLUS Programme Steering Committee (TPSC) has been created by ICAO to ensure better transparency, strategic planning and administration of the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme as well as to ensure that members have a mechanism for active participation and contribution in all key aspects of the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme.
TPSC is comprised of nine members from all over the world, including Korea, Singapore, The Netherlands, Dominican Republic, Niger, Kenya, Mexico, and Cuba, who have all achieved the full membership status in the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme. To date, 30 civil aviation entities from 30 different countries, including airports and aviation training organisations from the UK, Sweden, South Africa, Russia and Turkey, have joined the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme as Associate Members to be now led by the new Steering Committee. TPSC will run on a two year cycle, and has elected for its first cycle GCAS from the UAE to lead the committee globally, with Hee-Hung Lee, Executive Director of Incheon Airport Training Academy, the training arm of Incheon Airport in Korea, as the Vice Chairman. Incheon Airport has been ranked “the best airport in the world” seven years in a row by Airport Council International (ACI).
On this new election and accolade, H.E. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of ADAC, said:
“GCAS is honoured to represent the UAE on a global front in this leading initiative, and therefore values deeply the confidence imposed by ICAO and its fellow members in being elected to chair its Steering Committee.”
“GCAS’s aim in its new role will be to ensure that the initial success and achievements of the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme continues to be built upon by working very closely with all TPSC members, along with ICAO and other full, as well as associate, TRAINAIR PLUS members worldwide” H.E. concluded.
The TRAINAIR PLUS Programme Steering Committee is a forum based on equal participation and collaboration and ICAO will act as the committee’s secretary responsible for all tasks required to support the TPSC activities. The TPSC will play an important advisory role to ICAO, offering guidance and advice on the development and improvement of the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme, and will also submit recommendations and reports to ensure improvement on key implementation and strategic planning issues.
GCAS was amongst the first aviation training centres worldwide to enrol in the TRAINAIR PLUS Programme when launched by the ICAO in March 2011. Later on, following the centre’s rigorous implementations, GCAS received the gold TRAINAIR PLUS full membership from ICAO in December 2011.
GCAS is the exclusive Joint Aviation Authorities Training Organization (JAATO) aviation training centre in the Middle East region and is a global aviation training hub for the delivery of Airport Council International (ACI) courses and is an International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regional Training Centre.
