(PRESS RELEASE) VANTAA, 2025-Apr-25 — /Travel PR News/ — In a unique initiative aimed at improving customer experience, Finavia, in collaboration with Airport Chaplain Hanna Similä, organized an event at Helsinki Airport to assist passengers in overcoming their fear of flying. The event, held on April 1, 2025, offered participants valuable insights and practical tools to manage their anxiety related to air travel.
“Our core focus is to enhance the customer experience, and we want to ensure that even passengers with a fear of flying can have a smooth travel experience. This event provided a welcoming space for individuals to ask questions and gain understanding about flying,” said Hanna Hämäläinen, Finavia’s Head of Passenger Services and Development at Helsinki Airport.
The afternoon session included a series of lectures and activities designed to address different aspects of the fear of flying. Psychologist and fear of flying coach Paula Kinnunen discussed the psychological factors contributing to the fear of flying, while Finnair pilot Riikka Kapiainen offered a pilot’s perspective on flying. Additionally, Airport Chaplain Hanna Similä, a professional supervisor and TRE instructor, provided insights on physical methods to manage anxiety. The event also included a guided tour of the airport terminal to help familiarize participants with the airport environment.
“Travel is about creating lasting memories, and it’s vital that everyone has the opportunity to experience these moments without fear. Finavia is committed to supporting our passengers and ensuring their journeys are as comfortable and stress-free as possible,” Hämäläinen added.
Hanna Similä, who frequently encounters passengers dealing with fear of flying, expressed the significance of the event: “Fear of flying is something I come across regularly in my role. I’ve seen how it can prevent people from pursuing their dreams or even reconnecting with loved ones. This event was an opportunity for participants to address their fears with expert advice and practical tips, and to experience the airport process in a safe and supportive environment.”
Similä highlighted the emotional impact of the event on the participants, saying, “It was heartwarming to hear how much this event meant to those who attended. It was a privilege to witness their journeys toward alleviating their fear.”
The participants also shared their appreciation for the event’s confidential and supportive atmosphere, which enabled them to openly discuss their fears. “We were a diverse group, yet we all shared one common experience: the fear of flying. The event felt incredibly necessary and important,” one participant commented.
Finavia plans to host similar events in the future to further support passengers in managing their fear of flying.
