Finavia Boosts Global Air Connectivity with Expanded Summer Routes and Enhanced European Links

(IN SHORT) Finavia is significantly expanding its international air network for the summer season, with direct flights now serving 116 destinations globally. This expansion includes both new route launches and increased weekly frequencies on existing routes, with a strong focus on connecting Finland to major European cities and popular Mediterranean tourist hotspots. Finnish Lapland continues to attract international attention, maintaining key year-round routes from Rovaniemi and Kittilä—such as Discover Airlines’ service from Frankfurt, Edelweiss Air’s from Zurich, and Ryanair’s from Milan—while Finnair introduces a new route from Ivalo to Kirkenes in Northern Norway. Meanwhile, Helsinki Airport will see direct flights to 102 international destinations, highlighted by Norwegian’s inaugural services to Malta and Bucharest, and Finnair’s increased flights to the United States, Japan, and China. Additionally, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will launch a direct flight from Copenhagen to Turku, enhancing connectivity for travelers in the Turku region. Petri Vuori, Finavia’s Senior VP for route development, emphasized that these developments are part of a broader strategy to advance Finland’s air connectivity, developed in cooperation with airlines and the tourism industry. The summer season operates from March 30 to October 25, with routes and schedules subject to adjustment during this period.

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 2025-Apr-1 — /Travel PR News/ — Finavia is set to boost its international air connectivity this summer by operating direct flights from its airports to 116 destinations worldwide. In addition to opening new routes, airlines will also increase the number of weekly flights on existing services compared to last summer. “The new route openings at Finavia airports focus on connecting Finland to Europe’s major cities, particularly popular Mediterranean tourist destinations during the summer,” said Petri Vuori, Finavia’s Senior Vice President for route development. He added that these initiatives are part of an ongoing effort to enhance Finland’s air connectivity in collaboration with airlines and tourism operators.

There is also notable international interest in Finnish Lapland this summer. Historic year-round routes will continue at Rovaniemi and Kittilä airports, with Discover Airlines maintaining its service from Frankfurt to Kittilä, Edelweiss Air operating from Zurich to Kittilä, and Ryanair continuing its flights from Milan to Rovaniemi. Moreover, Finnair is set to launch a new route from Ivalo Airport to Kirkenes in Northern Norway. “Our shared goal is to boost international tourism to Finnish Lapland during the summer, and it’s encouraging to see year-round routes attracting visitors from Central Europe to experience summery Lapland,” Vuori noted.

At Helsinki Airport, flights will operate directly to 102 international destinations this summer. In a historic move, Norwegian will begin services from Helsinki to Malta and Bucharest, Romania, while Finnair increases its weekly flights on routes to the United States, Japan, and China. Additionally, direct scheduled flights will connect network airports to 14 European destinations. At the season’s start, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will celebrate a new direct route from Copenhagen to Turku Airport, offering improved access to European connecting flights for travelers from the Turku region.

The summer season, which runs from March 30 to October 25, follows a seasonal schedule with routes and frequencies subject to change as airlines independently adjust their offerings throughout the period.
