Edinburgh, Scotland, 2016-Aug-09 — /Travel PR News/ — Public events taking place across Scotland from August-October are set to benefit from £233,000 from EventScotland’s National Funding Programme, it has today been revealed.
A total of 21 events will receive grants from EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, providing crucial support for event delivery and helping to develop Scotland’s varied and boundary-pushing events portfolio.
Including both well-established and new events, 13 local authority areas are represented in Round 32, from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to Dumfries & Galloway. The average value of grant being administered is over £11,000.
National Programme funding supports the strategic development of events which occur outside of Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the aim of driving domestic tourism, economic impact for local communities and media profile for Scotland.
Building upon existing event programmes, improving marketing practices and enhancing the on-site food and drink offer are just some of the ways that these funds will be put to use.
To celebrate the granting of funds to Cake Fest Scotland, a sweet celebration of Scotland’s top 100 architectural masterpieces and forming part of the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, Dyslexia Scotland’s Celia Richardson specially created a ‘£233k’ Madeira cake with home-made jam which she presented at Cowane’s Hospital in Stirling.
Cake Fest, a Festival of Architecture (foa2016.com) Headline event, will take place there on September 11, when 100 teams of amateur bakers will gather to set-down their representations of our most famous landmarks in cake on an entirely edible map of Scotland. Celia, from Glasgow, will again be donning her whites to construct Dumbarton Castle in honour of Dyslexia Scotland’s President and three-time F1 World Champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, who was born in West Dunbartonshire.
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said:
“EventScotland’s National Funding Programme is incredibly valuable to Scotland’s events industry, allowing some of our best-loved properties to promote themselves to a huge number of people and to work towards a self-sustainable future.
“National events are critical, not only in maintaining the variety of Scotland’s event portfolio, but also in promoting our cultural heritage and bringing beneficial impacts to all areas of the country. We look forward to seeing each of these events, which help to ensure Scotland’s reputation as the perfect stage for events is protected, take place over the coming weeks.”
Simon Preston, Head Baker and Founder of Cake Fest said:
“We are most grateful to EventScotland for their support, which will be invaluable in bringing amateur bakers from across the country together to create a giant edible map of Scotland’s iconic buildings. Cake Fest will take place on Sunday 11 September; we still have some fantastic buildings up for grabs to bake, have a look atwww.foa2016.com/cakefest to get involved and also to buy tickets. Stirling is going to be buzzing with street theatre, storytelling and loads of fun, as well as an abundance of cake. Everyone is welcome.”
