Enterprise Employs Nearly 6,000 U.S. Military Reservists, Veterans
ST. LOUIS, 2012-12-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — Enterprise Holdings announced today that it has been designated a 2013 Military Friendly Employer® by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs. Criteria for the designation included a benchmark score across key programs and policies such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
“Enterprise Holdings is deeply committed to hiring military veterans and reservists, and we have a long-standing relationship with the U.S. military dating back to my father, our company’s founder, Jack Taylor and his World War II service,” said Andrew C. Taylor, chairman and CEO of Enterprise Holdings, which owns and operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands.
In line with its continued commitment to the military, Enterprise Holdings hired more than 1,500 veterans and active/inactive reservists in 2012. Nearly 6,000 of the approximately 63,000 U.S.-based Enterprise Holdings employees are military veterans or reservists.Enterprise’s support for its military employees includes paying the salary differential for employees on active duty, so they continue to receive full pay throughout the duration of their service.
“We created the Military Friendly Employers® designation outside of the Top 100 to recognize another 1 percent of companies that have great programs and opportunities for veterans and spouses. Companies earning the prestigious Military Friendly Employers® designation are rising stars with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment,” said Sean Collins, vice president for Victory Media and director for G.I. Jobs.
Enterprise is named after the USS Enterprise, the aircraft carrier on which Jack Taylor served as a pilot, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses. The seventh of eight U.S. Navy ships named Enterprise, the World War II carrier is widely recognized as the most decorated warship in U.S. military history. In fact, Enterprise partnered with the History Channel in 2008 to present “Battle 360,” a 10-episode series highlighting the historic aircraft carrier.
This month, the U.S. Navy decommissioned the eighth USS Enterprise – the nation’s oldest active-duty warship and the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in its fleet. However, the U.S. Navy also announced that the USS Enterprise would live on as the official moniker for the next nuclear aircraft carrier to be constructed.
“We have a strong military heritage and continue our commitment to hire thousands of veterans and reservists into the Enterprise family,” said Taylor. “We’re elated that the USS Enterprise will continue to make its mark on U.S. military history.”
Enterpriseis a member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission and of the White House Joining Forces Travel Industry Coalition, two initiatives committed to increasing the hiring of military veterans. In addition, Enterprise offices throughout the country are participating in Hiring Our Heroes events sponsored by local chambers of commerce.
Enterprise, which serves more than 50 U.S. military bases, has been recognized with the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest honor given by the U.S. government for support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Enterprise also has advanced to the 5-Star level in ESGR’s (Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve) Statement of Support Program for its support of employees serving in the military.
In 2012, Enterprise was honored for the second time as a Freedom Award Nominee by the ESGR, and was one of only two Missouri companies to receive the first Extraordinary Employer Support Award from the ESGR for sustained support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Enterprise was also recognized in 2012 by the Vice Admiral, Chief of Naval Reserve, for the company’s support of Sailors in the Naval Reserve.
Enterprise will be showcased, along with other designated Military Friendly Employers®, in the January 2013 edition of G.I. Jobs magazine. Companies earned the designation via the same data-driven survey and methodology as the previously released Top 100 Military Friendly Employers® list.
