Celebrate Canada Day at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain

Canada 150 Celebrations Include Performances By The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre And The Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute At Whistler

WHISTLER, British Columbia, CANADA, 2017-Jun-23 — /Travel PR News/ — On Saturday, July 1, Whistler Blackcomb in partnership with CIBC invite guests to celebrate Canada Day at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain for a free performance by the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute at Whistler (VSOIW). Programing for the day includes a Citizenship Reaffirmation ceremony and special recognition of Whistler community members who proudly represent Canada and the spirit of Whistler Blackcomb, including Olympic ski-cross gold medalist Marielle Thompson.

The day’s celebration will mark a milestone year for the country as Whistler Blackcomb, CIBC, and guests #StandForCanada to celebrate 150 years together. The festivities begin at 1:45 p.m. and CIBC will be offering 150 complimentary PEAK 2 PEAK 360 Experience tickets at the base of Whistler Mountain for those wanting to attend.

“Whistler Mountain provides a very Canadian backdrop for what is sure to be an inspiring, inclusive and engaging afternoon hosted by our partners at CIBC,” says Dave Brownlie, chief operating officer at Whistler Blackcomb. “We are honoured to have delegates from the SLCC welcome attendees to their traditional territory for this day of celebration and performance. The performers from the VSOIW are an incredibly talented group of students from all over the world and we are privileged to have them play for our guests.”

The students, aged 15 to 25, will form three chamber ensembles: a string quartet performing the first movement of Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 2; a woodwind quintet performing Carl Nielsen’s Quintet; and a Brass Ensemble performing works by Dukas, Knox, and Grieg. For more information about the VSOIW, and for additional performance locations, please visit http://www.vsoinstitute.ca/.

In addition to the VSOIW performance, the Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony will allow Canadian guests to express their pride in country by taking an oath of allegiance as part of a nation-wide tribute.

“As a proud Canadian company celebrating 150 years of shared history with our country, CIBC is very excited to host this Canada Day celebration with our partner, Whistler Blackcomb,” says Monique Giroux, Vice President, Sponsorship Marketing & Strategic Partnerships, CIBC. “On July 1, a ripple effect of national pride will be felt in communities across the country as we celebrate our rich heritage and what better way to conclude the day than atop Whistler Mountain, one of Canada’s most iconic destinations.”
