Budapest Airport enables passengers to pre-order food in the transit area with Wolt

Budapest, Hungary, 2021-Sep-30 — /Travel PR News/ — Budapest Airport is expanding its offer with a new service: it is the first in Europe to partner with Wolt and enable passengers to order in advance from restaurants and cafés at Budapest Airport. With the mobile application, fast and contactless orders can now be placed, paid and picked up at the food and beverage outlets located at the airport, without waiting. Most of the restaurants and cafés in the transit area after passenger screening have joined the new service, which is available to all travelers as of today (2021.09.29).

From now on, buying food at Budapest Airport is even easier, faster and safer for passengers, as they can order from most restaurants at Terminal 2 of Ferenc Liszt International Airport using the Wolt application, on their mobile phones. The cooperation of Budapest Airport and Wolt Magyarország Kft. enables passengers to place their orders without waiting and provides contactless payment, which reduces personal contact to a minimum during food pickup and ensures social distancing. Passengers can then pick up their orders and enjoy them at the dining tables in the transit area, or take them on board.

Departing passengers will be able to access the menus of participating restaurants once they are in the area of the airport. The details of the participating outlets can be found in the Wolt application and on Budapest Airport’s website. The service is initially only available for people with boarding passes and airport employees, as orders must be picked up directly from the restaurants and cafés, after passenger screening. Payment is instantaneous via the application, and customers receive a notification when their order is ready.

People ordering from a mobile device will have access to the same prices as passengers visiting the restaurant in person, and the customer service of Wolt is also available for people buying from the airport’s food and beverage outlets. There is no additional charge for the service.

Chris Dinsdale, the chief executive officer of Budapest Airport said about the cooperation: “We are constantly developing our service portfolio and the quality of airport services. We were recently recognized as the best airport in the region for the eighth consecutive year and we look forward to continuing to evolve the passenger journey, to ensure that our passengers have a world-class travel experience.”

Patrick Bohl, head of retail and property management at Budapest Airport added: “We are proud that Budapest Airport is the first European airport enabling passengers to pre-order their food in the transit area with Wolt. This makes the food and drink selection even easier and simpler to navigate, ordering becomes faster and contactless, and, last but not least, it saves time. Our unique partnership with Wolt creates a new opportunity for restaurants and cafés, which were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and have now reopened, to serve the gradually recovering passenger traffic even more safely and comfortably.”

“Through this joint initiative with Budapest Airport, Wolt once again takes a significant step towards enabling its users to order food or beverages anytime, anywhere,” commented Ákos Tajta, Wolt regional general manager responsible for Central Europe. The expert said that this initiative focuses on offering more options to customers – just like Wolt Market, launching soon, or the gradual expansion of the Hungarian service area, originally only covering the central districts of Budapest, to an increasing number of towns in the country. Ákos Tajta underlined that similarly to their core service, new developments also focus on fast, easy and safe ordering.

The service is already available to passengers using the Wolt application, which can be downloaded both from the App Store and the Google Play Store. Budapest Airport and Wolt Magyarország Kft. are in continuous discussions to make more convenient food ordering also available on the landside going forward.
