Austrian Technicians Win Environmental Prize of City of Vienna

  • Waliclean, revolutionary method for cleaning vacuum toilet systems
  • Method uses citric acid instead of chemicals – both environmentally-friendly and economical

2013-02-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Waliclean, a revolutionary method for cleaning vacuum toilet systems, is to be awarded the 2013 Environmental Prize of the City of Vienna. The invention, by Austrian technicians Klaus Banny and Robert Hartl, works according to a simple principle: a solution of normal citric acid and warm water is circulated under a vacuum through the waste water system of the aircraft. The rinse water can then be disposed of quickly and easily via the waste water channel. The system, Waliclean, is not just an environmentally-friendly alternative to previous methods, but also saves a huge amount of time and money. Waliclean has been used to clean toilets at Austrian Airlines since 2008.

The Environmental Prize of the City of Vienna honours innovative ideas and projects designed to economise on the use of energy, waste and resources, as well as measures for building environmental awareness and the social aspects of sustainable business management.
