(IN SHORT) AirAsia is advising passengers to prepare ahead for travel during the Aidilfitri festive season, when passenger numbers are expected to rise across the airline’s network. Travellers are encouraged to complete online check-in using the AirAsia MOVE app, which allows them to receive digital boarding passes and monitor flight updates. The airline has introduced features such as Auto Visa Check to simplify document verification for international flights, while self-service kiosks at airports help streamline baggage drop procedures. Passengers are also advised to arrive early at airports and ensure they meet visa and entry requirements for their destinations. Additional services such as wheelchair assistance, immigration clearance tools like the MyNIISe app and digital boarding passes are designed to help travellers move through the airport more efficiently during the busy holiday travel period.
(PRESS RELEASE) SEPANG, Malaysia, 2026-Mar-16 — /Travel PR News/ — AirAsia is encouraging travellers to prepare in advance for their journeys during the Aidilfitri festive period, as the airline anticipates increased passenger traffic across its network. By planning ahead and following key travel guidelines, guests can enjoy a smoother airport experience and focus on celebrating the holiday with family and friends.
To simplify the travel process, passengers are encouraged to complete self check-in using the AirAsia MOVE app. The digital check-in service opens 14 days before departure and remains available until one hour prior to the scheduled flight. Once check-in is completed, guests receive an electronic boarding pass directly on their mobile device.
The AirAsia MOVE app, available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery, also allows travellers to monitor the latest flight updates through its Flight Status feature, ensuring they stay informed of any changes before heading to the airport.
Airport counter check-in services will be reserved for passengers who require additional assistance, including travellers with reduced mobility, guests flying with infants under 24 months old, pregnant passengers, senior citizens and young passengers travelling alone.
Pregnant passengers must complete a declaration form at the airport before boarding. Those who are more than 27 weeks pregnant are required to present an approved medical certificate issued by a doctor.
Passengers with reduced mobility can request wheelchair services when making their booking or later through the “My Bookings” section in the AirAsia MOVE app. Such requests should be submitted at least four hours prior to departure.
For international journeys, travellers are reminded to verify visa and entry requirements for all countries included in their itinerary, including transit destinations. As these regulations can change, passengers are advised to consult relevant embassies or consulates before travelling.
AirAsia’s digital platform also allows travellers to upload visa documents through the mobile app or airasia.com, enabling a complete boarding pass to be issued before arriving at the airport. The airline’s Auto Visa Check feature further simplifies the process for international travel. Using this tool, passengers can scan their visa sticker or upload an electronic visa during online check-in. If verification is successful, their electronic boarding pass will be generated instantly. If the system cannot verify the documents automatically, a manual verification can be completed at the airport check-in counter.
During the busy holiday period, AirAsia recommends that travellers arrive at the airport at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures. At Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2, check-in counters close one hour before departure, while at other Malaysian airports domestic flight counters close 45 minutes prior to take-off.
Passengers travelling through Kuala Lumpur are also encouraged to use the MyNIISe mobile app. Malaysian passport holders can use this app to access dedicated immigration lanes equipped with QR code scanning and facial recognition, helping speed up the clearance process at KLIA Terminal 2.
Travellers may board their flights using the e-boarding pass stored in the AirAsia MOVE app, eliminating the need to print a physical boarding pass at most airports where the airline operates. However, some airports may still require printed boarding passes for verification purposes.
For passengers checking luggage, self-service kiosks are available to print baggage tags and complete the bag drop process. After checking in, travellers can scan the QR code on their e-boarding pass at the kiosk, print baggage tags and proceed to the self-service baggage drop counters. Additional baggage allowances can also be purchased through the AirAsia MOVE app up to four hours before departure.
AirAsia also reminds passengers to ensure that their cabin baggage complies with size and weight restrictions. Each traveller is permitted one piece of cabin luggage measuring no more than 56 x 36 x 23 cm, along with one additional small item such as a laptop bag, handbag or small personal bag. The combined weight of these items must not exceed 7 kilograms.
